 Roberta (Bobbie), Peter and Phyllis live with their
  parents in LONDON.
 Three days after Peter’s birthday, his toy steam engine
is broken. He is very sad.
 Peter’s father promises to mend the broken toy.
 That evening, two men come and take Father away.
Mother is very upset but she tries to comfort the
  children.
 A few weeks later, Mother tells the children that they
    are moving to the country.
 They spend a week packing everything into boxes.
 They take the train to their new home in the country.
They arrive late in the evening.
 The house is dark and cold. Mrs. Viney, the cleaning
    lady has gone home.
 Phyllis wishes they have
     not come.
 The children and their mother cannot find their
supper, so they eat the food they have brought instead.
 The next morning, the children take a look outside
their new home and its prettier than their old house in
    LONDON.
 They see a railway line at the bottom of the hill.
 Their mother finds the supper and have a hearty
    breakfast.
 The children help to unpack and arrange their things.
 Later in the afternoon, they go to the bottom of the ill
    to see the railway line.
 They go to the station. They see :-
         - The porter half asleep
         - A big pile of coal.
 From that day, the children do not go to school. Their
mother writes stories to sell for a living.
 The children think about their father but do not talk
about him because they do not want to disappoint
    their mother.
 The weather turns wet and cold. But Mother says that
they cannot set up a fire because coal are very
    expensive.
 Two nights after that, Peter shows his sisters a small
pile of coal on the hill. They carry coal to the house.
They do not tell anyone about it.
 One night, the Station Master catches Peter taking the
station’s coal red-handed. Bobbie and Phyllis who are
  hiding nearby show themselves.
 Peter explains to the Station Master why he is taking
  the coal.
 The Station Master tells the
   children that the coal belongs
to the railway and taking it is
   stealing. He lets them go.
Family Love And Loyalty
 The family loyalty shown by the children
to each other as well as to their parents
makes everyone fell safe and secure
 Textual Evidence:
      - Mother does not tell the children what
really happened to their father because
she does not want them to be sad.
      - Bobbie and Phyllis do not let Peter face
the Station Master alone when he is
      caught stealing coal.
Kindness And Compassion
 It makes people feel better and help
    build relationships.
 Textual Evidence:-
    - The children’s mother nurses Jim to
    health.
    - The Station Master let Peter go when
he learns that the family is too poor to
    buy coal.
Bravery
 We should speak up if we have done
something wrong. This shows strength of
    character.
 Textual Evidence :-
    - The children’s bravery that saved the train
and its passengers from a terrible accident
    when the landslide occurs.
    - The children shows bravery when they
confessed about asking a stranger to get the
things the doctor said she need.
