Film poster research
1. A film poster includes the basic
information. It doesnāt inform the
audience much about the plot, but
may have a picture of the stars,
and the name of the film.
2. ā¢ Posters promote an issue, the objective of a poster is
to promote the information on the trailer, in our case it
would promote our film, so it would encourage
individuals to watch our film.
ā¢ Film posters help promote a film similar to a film trailer.
ā¢ Film posters are displayed in many different place such
as bus tops, billboard and underground stations.
Because a film poster is a physical thing, it can be
promoted literally anywhere.
6. At the bottom of this film poster 'The Expendables 2' is written
in Grey block letters, also there is a strong use of red, the colour
of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger,
strength. In the film poster their are many characters that are
present but their is one man standing right at the front to show
that he's mainly in control of the whole group or maybe of the
most importance. Symbols like the guns that most of these men
carry shows us that this film will involve a lot of violence. The
main background of the poster is the burning buildings and burning
airplane, this shows that the men may have caused the damage or
they may be trying to stop people from causing it. The message
this poster presents is extremely visual its showing us action,
death and anger. I think the intended audience for a film like this
are people who hunger for adrenaline, action and destruction. The
main persuasive technique used i think would be the stars names
at the top of the poster, all of these male characters are well
known for their successful films in the action/crime genre, this
will definitely attract all their fans and band together and
ultimately the film will succeed. The action in this poster is
presented by the mass destruction, guns, black/army outfits and
explosions. Stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet
Li , Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger were probably used
as a USP since their all very well known. Bloody deaths and
violence is promised by this poster, the tag line 'Back for war'
shows that they have done this before and are back again to fight
once more, it works to make the audience feel as if their may be
some unfinished business in this movie. The narrative is shown
slightly through this movie since the audience already know that
this film contains an all-star cast of old-school action hero's .
8. The movie title is presented at the bottom
middle of the poster it is in bold italic misty grey
font. The title ātheā is writing in the middle of the
large āOā in the unborn. The colours of the
posters are misty blue/grey and white &black.
The shot type is an over the shoulder shot from
the young boys point of view, this puts the
female at an vulnerable position. The design of
the movie poster contains a large image of a
female in her underwear looking in the mirror
and in the mirror an image of a young boy is
presented. The reflection of the mood is rather
mysterious and fearful because most
individuals have a fear of looking in the mirror
and seeing another person looking back at you.
The other image would be the background
settings, that is the bathroom, that is where the
tagline is and that is āEvil will do anything to
liveā. This show that this āevilā will attempt to
harm many others just to stay alive at all costs.
The tagline makes you feel as if you should
expect the unexpected and be alert. As the
woman is in her underwear this tells me she is
in a exposed position. The intended audience
would be individuals who have a preference for
horror and psychological thrillers.
UNBORN
9. THE INVITED
The main colors used in this film
poster are grey, black and white these
sort of colors are seen as a
connotation of a bad omen. The title
is the invitedā it is a misty grey font,
and it looks wonkily written as if
something is already wrong. The
poster is mostly visual. The image of
a female looking in the window from
outside the house as if she wanted to
see if anyone was inside refers back
to the title. The sense of danger, fear
may be because of the fact that we
cannot see the womanās face. In the
background of the woman we notice
many tall trees, we assume we are in
a cabin and this would mean that the
poster was set in a remote area, the
mistiness of the surroundings makes
the person stay indoors. This movie
poster encourages is audience to go
see this movie because it makes us
wonder who is trapped in and why do
they fear the outsider and if the
outsider is the āuninvitedā and will it
force itself into the house. The tagline
is āFear moves inā āGet invited.ā āCan
you believe what you see?ā the
feelings it evokes in an individual is
fear and nervous.
