2. This coming Christmas Season, the Philippines has a unique
rice cake with desiccated coconut treat that all of us will
surely love.
That special rice cake is called “Puto-Bumbong”. The term
“puto” means cake, and “bumbong” is from bamboo tube.
Combine it together and you will have “puto-bumbong” or
a rice cake made inside the bamboo tubes.
This is only available on this time of the year togrther with
bibinka, another Christmas treat from Filipinos.
In easy steps, we will learn how to make our very own
“puto-bumbong”.
3. 1 Pack of Glutinous Rice Flour
2 Packs of Purple Yam Powder
2 ½ Cups of Water
Brown Sugar
Banana Leaves
Grated/Descicated Cococnut
5. The first step for making our special puto
bumbong is by preparing our steamer with
enough water for steaming.
The next step will be mixing all our solid ingred
ients in a bowl. Add water in order to make a d
ough.
Make sure that the mixture will look like the ph
oto on the left.
6. Make a roll of our dough just like on the
picture on the left. It must be about four to
five inches or depending on your bumbong to
be used.
Place the rice roll to your bumbong and put it
on the steamer. Wait until it is cooked.
7. Remove the cooked putos and place it
on a plate, apply margarine or butter
and roll or sprinkle it with desiccated
coconut from the Philippines.
