  10. 10. facebook.com/westpointgrey10 —— Community Arts & CultureCommunity Arts & Culture Vancouver Draw Down Saturday, June 20 at Community Centres all over Vancouver “…from the closet Pictionary buff and practiced doodler to those who want to show off their mad charcoal skills.” Shawn Conner, WEVancouver The Vancouver Draw Down is back! Last summer saw collaborative murals, costume designs, comic jamming and blindfolded drawing – what will Draw Down 2015 bring? This event reconnects EVERYONE with the creative pleasure of making your mark at drop in drawing workshops in community centres, art galleries, public parks and on city streets. Join us for fun, easy, inspiring workshops led by artists in your neighbourhood for FREE, all ages drawing activities. For more information and workshop times visit: www.vancouverdrawdown.com Seeing Spots – An Art Project To Deter Birds From Colliding With Windows at West Point Grey Community Centre. In October 2014, the Park Board Fieldhouse studio resident artists Geneviève Raiche-Savoie and Jesse Garbe were introduced to front office staff of the West Point Grey Community Centre to help find a solution to birds hitting the centre’s windows due to their highly reflective surface. The centre’s main facade consists of four large windows located next to a children playground. These artists from the Department of Bird Safety proposed to create an art piece on the windows that will deter birds from colliding with the building. This temporary installation of dots will take visual notes from the international artist Damian Hirst’s spot paintings and the dot pattern created by Feather Friendly, a bird collision company specializing in glass deterrents. They will be working with West Point Grey community members this Spring in placing the multi-colored dots onto the windows to offer an enjoyable aesthetic component that will be observable by both humans and birds. Go to www.westpointgrey.org/ events-listing/ for more info. This project will be facilitated through the West Regional Arts Programmer and West Point Grey Community Centre Staff, who are all very excited to launch this pilot project leading up to Vancouver’s Bird Week 2015. We plan to have more site installations of the Seeing Spots at Community Centres and Civic buildings during bird week. These projects fall in line with the Vancouver BirdStrategytocreateconditionsfornativebirdstothriveinVancouver. www.vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/vancouver- bird-strategy.aspx.
