Introduction.
Design
for
change
is
a
global
movement
designed
to
give
young
people
an
opportunity
to
express
their
own
ideas
for
a
better
world
and
put
them
into
action.
Children
and
adults
alike
learn
through
Design
for
change
that”I
can”
are
the
most
powerful
words
a
person
can
believe
in.
The
challenges
ask
children
to
do
four
simple
things;FEEL,IMAGINE,DO
and
SHARE.
The
phrase
“Can
I”
will
be
replaced
by
“I
Can”.

14. Changing
environment
and
attitudes
There
is
waste
everywhere,
around
the
class
buildings,
on
the
playgrounds,
mountains
of
garbage
piled
everywhere.
Not
only
where
the
wastes
destroying
the
aesthetic
beauty
of
our
school
it
is
also
becoming
a
health
hazard
by
attracting
flies
and
stray
dogs
to
the
school
campus.
The
smell
from
the
waste
is
also
becoming
unbearable
to
the
people.
While
looking
around
the
campus,
we
found
out
that
majority
of
the
waste
are
from
plastics
wrappers
and
plastic
bottles,
which
was
both
relief
and
stress
at
the
same
time.
Relief
because
plastic
wastes
and
recyclable
and
by
selling
to
recycle
companies
we
could
make
extra
money,
stress
because
if
plastic
wastes
are
not
taken
care
of
they
are
not
organic
and
will
take
centuries
to
decompose.
Our
aim
was
double
edged,
we
want
to
reduce
waste
and
change
student’s
attitudes
about
wastes
at
the
same
time.
Just
reducing
waste
would
be
a
short
term
solution,
but
if
we
are
successful
with
inculcating
proper
waste
disposal
habits
into
our
students
minds,
the
benefits
is
going
to
be
long
term.
Different
ways
of
reducing
wastes
were
suggested;
banning
plastics
from
the
schools,
limiting
bringing
plastic
wrapped
food
items
to
one
day
a
week,
holding
competition
among
classes
every
month
to
see
who
collects
the
most
plastic
materials,
selling
recyclables
to
recycling
companies,
turning
plastic
wastes
into
useful
cushions.
We
discussed
the
ideas
and
decided
that
banning
of
plastics
is
not
desirable
because
almost
all
food
comes
packaged
in
plastics
and
they
are
hygienic.
Limiting
plastic
containers
and
bags
would
force
students
to
use
unhealthy
packaging
food
putting
their
health
in
danger.
So
we
decided
that
reducing
waste
with
an
incentive
will
be
our
best
option.
By
awarding
monthly
prizes
to
class
that
collect
the
most
plastic
bags,
it
creates
competition
and
sense
of
accomplishment
among
the
students
and
helps
reduce
wastes.
So
we
gathered
around
and
discussed
ways
to
address
the
issues,
we
came
up
with
the
ever
popular
and
catchy
three
Rs(
Reuse,
reduce
and
recycle).
Various
ideas
we
came
up
with
are
to
collect
the
waste
and
turn
them
into
something
useful
.Hundreds
of
bags
of
plastics
materials
are
collected
by
DFC
members
and
through
the
monthly
competition
held
by
DFC.
Some
plastics
were
turned
in
beautiful
plastic
cushions.
We
are
already
beginning
to
see
the
changes
both
in
the
environment
and
attitudes
of
our
students.
The
school
is
starting
to
look
more
like
a
learning
environment
safe
and
clean
for
our
students
to
study
and
beautiful
to
look
for
the
outsiders.
Student’s
attitudes
are
beginning
to
change,
now
everyone
is
conscious
of
dumping
wastes
everywhere.
Students
are
taking
care
not
to
litter
everywhere
and
picking
up
litters
and
saving
them
to
hand
over
to
the
DFC
club.
