- PC refers to PC based video conferencing soft clients (MacOS, Windows, Linux) HD – High Definition STP – Simulated TelePresence ITP – Immersive TelePresence SIP – Session Initiation Protocol. IETF Standard. H.323 – ITU Standard One size, etc. will not fit all – IBM is a large, highly diverse company with a wide range of solutions requirements
- Common meeting. For example don’ t force people to share content within a video system (meeting) and also simultaneously join a web conference meeting While SIP is strategic. It is understood that H.323 is prevalent in the video arena and the migration to SIP will take significant time and effort.
- 3PCC – Third Party Call Control. Advanced UC environments may need to have control of the signaling in order to reach their full potential. Bandwidth optimization here refers more to advanced codecs and algorithms that provide appropriate meeting quality experience at reduced bandwidth. However, it could also refer to additional components that may help to optimize bandwidth use over most costly network links. Flexible, controllable meeting experiences – continuous presence, segment switching, multiple layouts, layout control Flexible cost structures – pay as you go, bulk, unlimited etc. Collaboration Enhancements – full integration of content/collaborative technologies into physical room systems as well as soft clients Accessibility integration – integrating accessibility/enablement technologies Fixed and mobile systems – Support for statically defined and dynamically defined systems (IP addressing, user identity based, etc.) LCD – A better Lowest Common Denominator , feature/function capability between disparate systems in the same call Access to data across organizational and company boundaries
- Actively promote interoperability, both internally and to our customers, partners and suppliers Initial primary focus of test environment was interoperability, standards and security Some external entities also leveraged the Research video environment Accessibility / Enablement refers to technologies and solutions that enable people with accessibility issues (i.e. hearing impaired) to participate more effectively General standards as well as specific video conferencing room standards based on platform type
