InstallCore Academy Chapter 2: Getting the Most of PPI (Pay-Per-Install)

  1. 1. Chapter 2: Getting the Most Out of PPI
  2. 2. What is Pay Per Install (PPI)? “A common monetization format for software installation. When a user downloads additional software advertised during the installation, the publisher gets paid.” installCore Academy Glossary
  3. 3. Why Should Publishers Monetize Downloads?
  4. 4. Better UX Users prefer an in-software experience with fewer ads, and less clutter between them and the software content. Ads served during the installation fall outside of typical UX, meaning more time for your users to concentrate on your product.
  5. 5. User-Oriented Monetization Monetization in almost all forms tends to push back against the user. PPI, however, allows publishers to earn from their software, without building a product around incentives and never-ending calls for the user to upgrade.
  6. 6. Why Do Advertisers Appreciate PPI?
  7. 7. Performance-Based Advertising Advertisers only pay when users download their product. This precision allows advertisers to know how users perceive their brand, and better understand their software’s value.
  8. 8. How to Calculate the Value of a Single Free User The value of a single free user is calculated like so: average upgrades per installation x $ profit for each upgrade. The result should be a strong determinant in how you buy space on installation campaigns.
  9. 9. So What’s the Role of the Installation Platform? As you can imagine, advertisers want to pay less for each installation, while publishers want to be paid more. Part of the job of an installation platform is to mediate between these two forces to come up with a sustainable, profitable system for all parties.
