HOW?…
Then, it was intuition, telepathy or just
catching the anxiety in your stumbling
voice… but it wasn’t IoT
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Remember your college days, when
your mom called you and you lied to
her that you were in the class but she
knew that you were watching a movie
with your buddy…
5. 5
THEN WHAT IS IT?
If you Google it, below is what you find…
“The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of
interrelated computing devices, mechanical
and digital machines, objects, animals or
people that are provided with unique
identifiers and the ability to transfer data
over a network without requiring human-to-
human or human-to-computer interaction.”
This still leaves us
confused, right?
6. 6
Getting Started With THE INTERNET OF THINGS
IS ACTUALLY A PRETTY
SIMPLE CONCEPT.
IT MEANS TAKING ALL THE
PHYSICAL PLACES AND
THINGS IN THE WORLD
AND CONNECTING THEM
TO THE INTERNET.
Let’s use smartphones as an example. Right now we can listen to just about any song in the world, but it’s not because
our phone actually has every song stored on it. It’s because every song in the world is stored somewhere else, but your
phone can send information (asking for that song) and then receive information (streaming that song on your phone).
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
it’s important to understand the benefits of connecting things to the internet.
WHY WOULD WE EVEN WANT TO CONNECT EVERYTHING TO THE INTERNET?
When something is connected to the internet, that means that it can send information or receive
information, or both. This ability to send and/or receive information makes things “SMART”.
7. 7
IOT can make our lives
SIMpLER…
7
- Now imagine your kettle switches on itself
and asks you to pour milk in it, as you were
toasting the breads
- Or your fridge sends you a message on your
smartphone to bring a bottle of coke while
coming home as someone at home picked the
bottle from the fridge’s tray
- Your AC at home switches on as soon as you
are 5 min away as per live location on maps
- And of course your mom knows where you
are as she can track your location any time
anywhere.
- Now… it is not her intuitions, she knows as
she is actually tracking you…
8. 8
LET’S MAKE IT SIMpLE…
In the Internet of Things, all the things that are being
connected to the internet can be put into three
categories:
➢ COLLECTING AND SENDING INFORMATION
➢ RECEIVING AND ACTING ON INFORMATION
➢ DOING BOTH: THE GOAL OF AN IoT SYSTEM
And all three of these have enormous benefits that
compound on each other.
9. Consumer IoT
Things like wearables,
smart home devices,
etc. all of which are
directly marketed to
consumers.
Enterprise IoT
Enterprise IoT refers the use of
IoT in improving an
organization’s existing systems
and processes and enabling
organizations to increase
operational efficiency or
unlock entirely new value
(e.g.by launching new business
lines or products).
POWER OF IoT

11. 11
HOW DOES IOT WORKS?
First, sensors or devices
collect data from their
environment. This data could
be as simple as a
temperature reading or as
complex as a full video feed.
whether it’s a standalone
sensor or a full device, in this
first step data is being
collected from the
environment by something.
Source: WWW.ComputerWorld.com
Next, that data is sent
to the cloud, but it
needs a way to get
there!
The sensors/devices
can be connected to
the cloud through a
variety of methods
including: cellular,
satellite, WiFi,
Bluetooth, low-power
wide-area networks
etc.
ALL COMPLETE IOT SYSTEMS ARE SAME, AS THEY ALL REPRESENT THE INTEGRATION OF
FOUR DISTINCT COMPONENTS:
SENSORS/DEVICES CONNECTIVITY DATA PROCESSING
Once the data gets
to the cloud
software performs
some kind of
processing on it.
USER INTERFACE
Next, the information is
made useful to the end-
user in some way.
Depending on the IoT
application, the user
may also be able to
perform an action and
affect the system.
And some actions are
performed
automatically.

The placement of small

allow companies to easily
track inventory items,
monitor their status and
position and create a smart

Predictive analytics is taking
center stage in different
industries, helping companies
and corporations create
effective business
development strategies,
improve the decision-making
process, make smart business

lot more.

And a lot can happen through IoT….
SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT SELF-DRIVING
VEHICLES
DRONE-BASED DELIVERY
Supply chain
management carries
various challenges, from
illegal food practices to
taking care of product
conditions. Via IoT track
the product Lifecycle-
from the origin of goods to
their transportation to the
customer’s hands.
In the near future, we will
become the witnesses of the
widespread use and adoption
of self-driving vehicles, being
tested at the moment.
Logistics companies will be
the first to take an advantage
of their integration into
business processes.
This way, businesses can also
minimize car accidents,
reduce operating costs and
optimize road traffic.
Drones can ensure business
process automation by providing
smart inventory tracking, fast
transportation of goods, and
instant in-store delivery. What’s
more, they enable to solve last-
mile delivery problems.

▪ Do you relate with this?
▪ Are you also facing high losses from
pilferage & in-transit thefts, and not
able to safeguard your shipments?
Theft is not the only challenge faced during transportation,
original products replaced with fake counterfeits and
adulteration of F&B products is also a big threat and
sometimes not accounted for, in the financials however
affects company’s goodwill and brand value, thus results
into loss of market share
