I called my mom a few days after it happened, when I was able to
hold back tears long enough to talk. She told me it’s their word
against mine and that nothing will come of it without evidence. I’ve
convinced myself that it’s better for my mental health not to try
seeking justice.
These men are supposed to help people at their most vulnerable.
How many women have they assaulted before? And are going to
continue assaulting? I don’t want this to cause me to lose trust in

Agreed. When I was assaulted, I knew they
wouldn't be able to find him. And yet I went in and
told my story.
Simply because I wanted the cops to know that it
happened and that they should keep in that area
under close supervision. I told them that, word for
word.
On top of that, it helped me personally. I told the
story the whole way through 3 times, and
immediately after I went back to the place where it
happened. It was not so far from my home, so I'd
have to pass that corner again. I wanted to do it on
my own terms, and I did. It helped me get rid of my
fear of that place, and it helped me mentally.

So I actually know somebody who was sexually
assaulted by a police officer. She made a complaint,
filled out a report, and thought nothing would come of it.
Turns out, there was a 3rd party investigation into this
officer because of previous complaints. They added her
story into the mix and now that officer is on unpaid leave
and will, most likely, lose his job.
I know you don’t want to seek justice, but I still think you
should file an official complaint. You never know what
will happen. The person that assaulted you, is going to
do it again and again until they’re held accountable.
I’m sorry you’re going through a hard time and I’m sorry
that this happened to you. Do whatever you have to do
in order to heal from this.

Ok. This exact situation happened to me as the mom.
Your mom has very likely been sexually assaulted
herself. Probably won’t even admit to herself the
damage it did. Part of that damage is a complete
distrust and even hatred towards law enforcement. I did
not bother to report 3 of my sexual assaults.
My oldest daughter came to me and said her friend’s bf
was “trying things with her”. I could only tell her that it
wasn’t worth reporting but forced her to tell her friend. It
ended the friendship. Unfortunately that same bf was
still around when my youngest was hanging out with this
girls younger sister.
You guessed it, he tried it with my youngest. (Texting
her nasty stuff as she wasn’t allowed near him) I finally
woke up. Enough. I went to the police. It took many
phone calls and 2 separate interviews (so far) and I
learned the extent of the assaults.
Your mom is giving you terrible advice. Don’t hate her
for it but do NOT LISTEN TO IT!!
Please call the police. Explain your story. File a report.
And then live your life free of shame, knowing you did
the right thing.

First of all this is so sick and disgusting and I'm shocked
this happened to you. I'm so sorry.
I think your mum is wrong. There is still merit in
reporting. Even if just to have a record of the complaint
which could mean that if others complain as well it can
add more weight. Like you said, they've probably done it
before and will probably do it again. It may also be
possible that a closer eye is kept on them in future
which could lead to evidence being found. I don't know if
it's likely but it's better than nothing.
All that being said please don't feel like that puts any
pressure on you to report. Only do what you're
comfortable with. If you want to report and you're
comfortable with it then don't let the lack of evidence be
the only reason you didn't. But if you're unsure about
how it would affect your mental health it's also okay to
focus on healing instead. I do like the idea of reporting
anonymously at least.

Every once in a while you'll hear about people being
arrested and hear "so-and-so was accused of sexual
misconduct by (number) of victims over (number) of
years, and now, with new evidence..." and then they just
throw the fucking book at them.
I certainly wish I had reported my abuser, that fucker got
to die while unconscious from (too much of) good
heroin.
Regardless, whether you choose to report or not, I
would like to strongly encourage you to seek mental
health treatment sooner rather than later. Psych stuff
can seemingly not even be there til it hits you like a
dump truck and if you're like me that'll spiral into a
psych clusterfuck with bonus addictions. You are in no
way weak for admitting you need help after trauma.

way weak for admitting you need help after trauma.
Something else that helped not only myself but also a
lot of other victims I know is self defense courses. Get
your power back, burn off some stress and rest a little
easier with the knowledge that if some fucker tries it
again they're going to be fucking sorry for it.

Despite all the overwhelming reasons you are being told
and are thinking yourself, What do you want to do?
If it's fight and make sure this never happens to anyone
again, there are support services out there that will help
you to do this.
If it's make an anonymous report and keep on doing so
until someone listens, do this.
If it's not think about it now, that is ok too, but know it
has and will continue to impact your life, be kind to
yourself and talk to someone at some point about how
you are feeling and thinking for your own mental health
and need to acknowledge what has happened so you
can heal and move on stronger.
There is nothing that says you need to decide now and
not change your mind, or don't. Just focus on you.

I’m an EMT. Patients have a lot of sway at my company
because the company doesn’t want to look bad. Even if
you don’t report to the cops, you can call the company
and tell them which employee it was and what they did.
Chances are this person has done the same to other
people, other people may have said something as well.

Former EMT here too. Please, please report this
because agencies and city officials take this sort of
thing VERY seriously. Even if you don't know the
name of the employee responsible, calls are
logged in such a way that it will only take seconds
to figure out the crew member(s) responsible.
I am beyond disgusted that this happened to you.

Hey, I don’t know if this will be the case around where
you live, but I work as an EMT and our ambulances
have cameras on throughout the entire shift that are
aimed at the patient. If this is the case with the
ambulance provider that carried you, you might be able
to request that as evidence
Edit: just a disclaimer. I’m unsure if the camera footage
is ultimately actually recorded or just used to monitor
patients from the front, but it could be a start.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but a lot of
newer ambulances have cameras in them to record the
paramedics when theyre treating a patient. You most
likely will not be able to access them yourself, but an
attorney or police/detective could.

You may not be able to find legal justice, but you should
alert the ambulance department/service/company
(whichever depending on where you live) that this
happened. They may be able to take steps to stop this
from happening again without you having to do much
more than make a phone call or fill out a complaint form.

My ex husband raped me over and over and I never
reported for the sake of our kids, and the fact we were
married meant I didn't think it would even go to court. I
understand the position you're in. I also understand not
doing it for your mental health. I see a lot of comments
saying report, but ultimately that is your choice and your
choice alone. I wouldn't judge either way

Your mom is, however, mistaken. Even if they don't go
to jail, if you complain to their company they will
certainly face consequences, and even more if they
already have complains. Reporting this, when you are
ready to do so, is the right thing to do.

I am just coming to grips with the fact that my dr
assaulted me in 2014. I am lucky that I have a great
support system and support to make a formal complaint.
If people in these positions of trust are doing this it
should be reported if possible but it is also hard to
actually do (I am going to report mine to the correct
office after the holidays) Im sure the process is different
everywhere but here, you make the complaint and it is
investigated. It is always your word against theirs,
nothing will change that but at least here, the
investigation will mean they are flagged so if there are
future complaints they will see its not the first time and
the consequences can range anywhere from having to
do training, not being allowed to work without someone
of the opposite gender, not even being allowed to treat a
specific gender to full out having their license removed.
To complain about a medical assult you are not (again,
this is based on Canada) going to the police or
anything, there is a specific entity that looks at medical
based complaints which to me, is a lot more comforting
and I think its the only reason ive been able to get the
courage to actually do it. I am sorry it happened to you,
it is hard when you are supposed to be able to trust and
this happens

I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I don't know the
best course of action for your situation, but I would
highly recommend looking into therapy to help. They
may even have more information about what measures
can and should be taken to protect you and your mental
health.
I understand that hearing someone tell you to leave the
issue alone is painful. I say this, not knowing anything
about you mom aside from what is hear, but I hope that
she has said these things to try and protect you in her
own way. I hope that these words came from a place of
protection, rather than denial.
I won't say whether it is best to pursue legal action or
not. I don't have enough information. What I will suggest
is perhaps an anonymous tip, or letter to either the
police or the hospital, if your local laws allow that. There
may be others who have submitted similar complaints
and accusations, and your anonymous testimony could
help in bringing future charges or dismissal.
I hope that you are able to heal.

encounters was that my sister was next to me when the
nurse crossed the line so I had a witness and someone
that agreed that what had happened was wrong. I can't
change what happened to you but I want you to know
that what happened to you was wrong. And this is a
person in a position of (temporary) power over people
that is abusing their position. I won't ask you to report

You should absolutely report this! At minimum it will go
in their file and build toward something. Many EMTs and
paramedics are underpaid and work for giant
ambulance companies with poor or no union
representation and they might just fire someone who
had a complaint like this. And at best it might result in
criminal action. But at least report it. That doesn't mean
you have to look that person in the eye and testify but at
least put it in the file. I bet you could write an email.

The chance of getting a criminal conviction is very, very
low. But it's entirely possible that the ambulance
company care enough to not hire predators. Call them
and make a complaint. They may even have video
footage from inside the ambulance which would make
things easier.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Years ago I had to
have an ultrasound done on my breast. The tech was
male. I had had them before and I should have sat up
and yelled for a manager when I realized what he was
doing, but I was frozen. He was so sly. So careful about
what he did that of course it had me wondering if I was
imagining it or if it was real. Days later, I thought about
going back to the clinic, speaking to a supervisor or HR,
and reporting it but I didn't. All I could think about was -
"How can I prove it?" But I regret doing nothing to this
day because maybe it wasn't the first time or maybe it
would have been the last time. These people have
these jobs so they can easily prey on women. It's
sickening and again, I'm so sorry. I understand the fear
and the agony as you consider whether you want to
report it to someone. All of your feelings are valid. It's
easy to say - report it, but it's much harder to do it.

I have some form of trauma after malpractice and
torture in a hospital. They're supposed to care for you,
but nowadays I can't go to a medical professional
without panic attacks and nightmares beforehand.
What you're feeling is absolutely valid and how you deal
with it is too. Pressing charges is not for everyone, but if
you want to, you should do it. If you think it'll help you
personally, you should. I didn't, because I was 15 at the
time and didn't know any better, but I feel as if I
should've, it would've helped my mental health to at
least try for justice.
But this isn't about me, it's about you. I hope my story
has brought some kind of comfort to you, knowing
you're not alone. You didn't deserve this, no one does,
and I'm so sorry that it happened. Don't let your mother
tell you how to handle your pain, but express it in any
way you feel will help you. When the time is right,
consider a therapist. It'll help you even when you feel it's
unnecessary.

I was sexually assaulted in a mental hospital last month,
so believe me when I say I understand how enraged
you must be. My mom was no help either and blames
me for these sort of things so I’m not tell her. But I’m
sorry yours wasn’t much help to you, that’s awful.
I’m also not thinking about it, because my life has
already been too stressful so I literally cannot process it.
But I’m pressing charges and getting lawyered up
against the hospital as they have done other messed up
things in the past. Police are useless normally so I
agree, but there are other people besides the police that
can help and you should still file a report so at least
there is a paper trail.
So that’s how I’m able to feel better about it. I honestly
think you should seek justice because I didn’t do it for
so many things in the past and I deeply regret and
resent it. The hurt doesn’t just disappear unfortunately, it
will come back and then you’ll wish you took action for
yourself. You deserve it, so see if you can ask a family
member to aid you in that process

Unfortunately EMS attracts these kinds of men because
you need minimal training to be alone with a patient. A
good company will make sure to send an all female
crew to vulnerable patients. Myself and a lot of my
young female coworkers have gotten assaulted or
harassed by our male coworkers. One of them even
bragged about making female patients pee themselves
by putting a strap across their pelvis tight. You should
come forward, people will believe you.

It might be unfortunately true that nothing will come of
your single report, but this guy is likely to do it multiple
times. If reports keep coming in that these specific
people are doing it, something might actually happen,
even at the very least they get fired.
I wouldn't get your hopes up that a satisfying conclusion
will come of your report, but your report may end up
helping others.

prove it or win a suit but if you make this public a hell of
a lot of women will refuse to be alone in that companies
ambulances. It will hurt their business and you will find

Not sure if you're in the US or not, but I believe most
ambulance services are 3rd parties not tied to any
particular hospital. Even if you don't report it to the
police, it might be worth reporting it to the company.
Even if you don't remember the person, they should be
able to track it by location and time. It could be that this
individual has a track record and the company is
already investigating them. They're just waiting for one

of the outcome, If you feel that you can handle it, it’s
best to report it. If not you’ll wonder how many more
times this will happen and it will eat at you.
Beyond just reporting it to the police, to the hospital, to
everyone related to the ambulance, I hope you get a
good therapist to talk to. That’s going to be important so
this experience doesn’t keep causing you more and
more pain and damage through the rest of your life.

regards to your mental health with their National Sexual
Assault Hotline 800.656.HOPE (4673) and online
hotline www.hotline.rainn.org/online they also have a
mobile app. RAINN also has a means for you to find
local service providers that can offer assistance as well
as information and resources regarding: individual
counselling, group counselling/support groups, medical
attention and hospital accompaniment, legal/criminal
justice system advocacy, crime victim assistance
advocacy and casework/practical assistance the link for
this is www.centers.rainn.org RAINN also offers a
comprehensive guide to laws regarding sexual assault
in your state which might be helpful if you decide to
report.
Whether or not you decide to report is up to you but I do
hope you are able to access the support you need right
now as your mental health is a priority. Please be gentle
with yourself, I hope this sub can be a lighthouse of
sorts until you reach safe harbour and find yourself back
on steady ground.

whether you want to report or not is your decision and I
support whatever decision you make. I do hope that you
can find some time to talk to a friend (maybe call them if
you can't visit them), and also look into therapy. I am
sorry this happened to you and it wasn't your fault. And
I'm extra sorry your mother is being unsupportive right
now. Maybe in time you can tell her how her lack of
support is also very hurtful.

I had a friend tell me a similar story decades ago. She
was intoxicated and had been the passenger in a
vehicle that was hit. They had her undress, and when all
of them got in the back, told her to take her bra off, she
stopped complying and freaked out.
I don’t have any advice, but can send you all the
support and sympathy I have. I’d write a formal letter of
complaint. Make it part of a record that might follow
them and protect others, without you having to go
through one of those patriarchal bullshite legal
proceedings designed by men to protect men.

all the best. Don't take my next comment as anything
pressuring the way you act. You, of course, should do
what's best for you.
Your mom is wrong though. Even if it's a he-said/she-
said, it matters to report it. Fighting back always matters
even if it seems hopeless.

It may be tough to go through and I am not in your
shoes but I think I would bring it forward.
Maybe you don’t get justice but maybe your case spurs
a conversation around safety of the patient and they
instal cameras in the ambulances to prevent this in the
future.
