3. Cassandra Clare
• She is the author of this saga called Shadowhunters .
• In 2004, Clare started working on her first-published novel, City of
Bones inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan.
• City of Bones was released in 2007 and is a contemporary fantasy story,
which became a New York Times bestseller upon its release.
• City of ashes and City of Glass completed the first trilogy. A subsequent
second trilogy contained three more books: City of Fallen Angels ,City of
Lost Souls, and City of Heavenly Fire.
• There is a prequel trilogy called The Infernal Devices, which is set in
the same universe as The Mortal Instruments, but set in the Victorian
era.
• A fourth trilogy set in this universe was announced in 2012, to be
collectively known as The Dark Artifices.
• There are also two series of interconnected short stories set in this
universe , but they are not written by her.
• In 2013 a film about the 1st
book (City of bones) was made , but it didn’t
success so they didn’t make more.
• Since 12th
, January , 2016 there’s also a tv series about these books.
They are currently on season 2.

4. Main characters
• Clary Fray : she‘s the main caracter and she grow up as a normal girl , but then
she discovered she‘s a shadowhunter.
• Jace Wayland : he‘s a shadowhunter and one of the best murderers of his
generation. His parents died and he grow up with the Lightwood family.
• Alec Lightwood : he‘s also a shadowhunter (as all his family), and he is the oldest
brother of the Lightwood siblings and Jace‘s best friend (they are like brothers) .
He doesn‘t like/trust Clary.
• Isabelle Lightwood : she‘s Alec‘s younger sister . She‘s a really strong and
independet shadowhunter.
• Valentine Mogerstein : he‘s a bad guy and he “controlls“ demons. He used to be a
shadowhunter but instead of fighting demons he almost became one.
• Jocelyn Fray : Clary‘s mom , Valentine kidnapped her. She was a shadowhunter.
• Simon Lewis : Clary‘s best friend , he is secretly in love with her. He‘s a mundane.
• Magnus Bane : Brooklyn‘s greatest wizard. He helped Jocelyn to erase Clary‘s
memories about the Shadowhunters‘ world.
• Luke Garroway : he also used to be a shadowhunter but he was bitten by a
werewolf and he became one. Luke and Jocelyn are really good friends and he
helped her with Clary while she was growing up.

I like almost every character , they all are very different between them and they
also have very different personalities. But , my favourite character is Jace ,
because he‘s really mysterious and decided. Although he has a very strong
personality and he tries to act like he doesn‘t care about anything he‘s very
sensible and always protect the people he cares about.

6. Themes & Setting
• This book deals with a lot supernatural things and characters like vampires ,
werewolves or demons.
• Altough I didn‘t identify myself with none of the characters I really enjoyed
reading this book because , while reading it , I thought it was really interesting.
• It takes place in New York , it doesn‘t specify the exactly year or the date , but
it‘s supossed to be nowadays.

7. Plot
• When Clary , for her birthday, decided to went out with his best friend
Simon to a Club in New York City called Pandemonium , she didn’t expect
to witness a murder. But she did , and it was committed by three
teenagers covered with strange tattoos and who carried weird weapons.
She was about to call the police but suddenly the body dissapeared into
thin air and the “murderers” were invisible to everyone but Clary.
Because of her ability to see them, the “murderers” explain themselves
as Shadowhunters (a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the
earth of demons.)
Within twenty-four hours, Clary’s mother disappeared and Clary was
almost killed by a demon but fortunately Jace saved her.
Jace started to became interested in Clary , he wanted to know why a
“mundane” (a normal person) could see them , and after Clary’s mom went
missing he found out who her mother was and he finally understood it.

8. Plot
Jocelyn (her mom) used to be a shadowhunter when she was younger but
as soon as Clary was born she got away of that world and she tried to
protect Clary of that supernatural world full of demons , so she hid it
from her with the help of Magnus Bane (the most powerful wizard) .
So that meant that Clary was a shadowhunter and that was why she could
saw them and the others couldn‘t.
The rest of the book tells how Clary with the help of Simon , Jace ,
Isabelle , Alec and her mother‘s friend Luke (who was a werewolf) fight
against demons and Valentine ,who is Clary‘s father (she didn‘t who her
father was , her mom told her that he died but it was a lie) to try to
bring Jocelyn back alive and save.

9. Personal Opinion
• For me this is book has it all, it‘s really interesting and misterious but at
the same time it has supernatunal , unsual and even same romantic parts ,
scenes and characters.
• So , I think , it‘s a very a great book and you probably will like it wether
you like adventures , romance , mistery , supernatural , ...
Because , like I said , this book (and the whole saga) it‘s a mixture of all
that. So if you like any of those genres I recommended to you.
• I didn‘t learn anything useful for real life but I did have a really good
time while reading it.
