LG (South Korea) Display Reports Fourth Quarter 2019 Results
• Revenues in the fourth quarter of 2019 increased by 10% to KRW 6,422 billion from KRW 5,822 billion
in the third quarter of 2019 and decreased by 8% from KRW 6,948 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018.
• Operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2019 recorded KRW 422 billion. This compares with the
operating loss of KRW 436 billion in the third quarter of 2019 and the operating profit of KRW 279
billion in the fourth quarter of 2018.
• EBITDA in the fourth quarter of 2019 was KRW 586 billion, compared with EBITDA of KRW 613
billion in the third quarter of 2019 and with EBITDA of KRW 1,134 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018
• Net loss in the fourth quarter of 2019 was KRW 1,817 billion, compared with the net loss of KRW 442
billion in the third quarter of 2019 and the net income of KRW 153 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018.
• LG Display registered KRW 6,422 billion in revenues and KRW 422 billion in operating loss in the
fourth quarter of 2019.
• The revenue increase of 10% quarter-on-quarter was driven by a rise in sales of large-size OLED panels
for TVs and P-OLED (Plastic OLED) panels for smartphones which also resulted in an 18% increase of
ASP (Average Sales Prices) compared to the previous quarter.
• LG Display saw a rise in P-OLED shipments, as it secured a sound base for strategic customers for
P-OLED in the fourth quarter. However, the company’s operating loss improvement on a
quarter-on-quarter basis was limited due to an increase in fixed costs for full-scale P-OLED
mass-production and additional costs for the company’s move towards structural innovation for its LCD
business.
• LG Display posted KRW 1,817 billion in net loss in the fourth quarter, reflecting asset impairment
losses calculated by the K-IFRS standard, which are KRW 200 billion with the company’s withdrawal
from the OLED Lighting business and KRW 1.4 trillion won due to the unfavorable circumstances for
P-OLED business compared to when the initial decision on the investment was made.
Executive Commentary
“LG Display’s liability-to-equity ratio was temporarily increased in the fourth quarter due to the asset
impairment, but this is expected to start to gradually improve down the road. The positive
anticipation is that factoring in asset impairment this time means that uncertainty in the future is
expected to be removed and possible fluctuation in the company’s future business is also expected to
be reduced. In addition, depreciation costs will be reduced by KRW 300 billion each year in the next
five years,” said CFO and Senior Vice President of LG Display. As the current business environment
for P-OLED is somewhat challenging but also presents many business opportunities ahead, LG
Display will consistently maintain our strategic direction regarding P-OLED business and build a
sound base for growth. In addition, we will make efforts to achieve a significant revenue increase in
large-size OLED panels as our OLED plant in China will ramp up production, and continue to stably
manage forecasts for P-OLED panels for smartphones as well as for automobiles, for which we will
increase shipments during the first half of this year. All these efforts will create meaningful
opportunities for earnings improvement from the second half.”

KYOCERA (Japan) Develops New Generation of High-Performance, Economical,
Multi-functional Milling Cutters "MEV Series"

Solution Description
Kyocera Corporation announced its new MEV series of efficient, multi-functional milling cutters for metal machining
applications. The new product series, which includes six inserts and 25 holders, are now available worldwide. A milling
cutter typically has cutting edges on its outer holder body and bottom, and is used to cut grooves and forms out of the
surface of a metal workpiece. The process requires continuous improvement in cutting precision and efficiency to support
the growing range of materials and applications demanded within many industries, including automotive and aerospace
manufacturing. While a conventional milling cutter can deliver high rigidity and high-precision machining through
increased web thickness, this often results in higher cutting forces that decreased efficiency. Alternatively, if efficiency is
prioritized instead, the tool can become prone to vibration shock, which diminishes cutting accuracy. To overcome this
longstanding challenge, Kyocera developed a unique "vertical triangle" insert design that delivers both high rigidity and
lower cutting forces. Kyocera achieved longer product life and greater versatility by adjusting the angle of the cutting
edges, increasing the rigidity of the holder body, and optimizing the insert shape to improve chip control.

Solution Description
Nomura Research Institute, Ltd., a leading provider of consulting services and system solutions, announced it has developed a benchmark
for investment appraisal of crypto-assets – the “NRI/IU Crypto-Asset Index Family” – in coordination with Intelligence Unit LLC (IU).
This new offering will be available through NRI’s financial information database, IDS, to domestic and overseas institutional investors,
financial information vendors, and crypto exchanges beginning January 31. As a method to replace legal currency or raise funds for
emerging digital companies that provide infrastructure and platform solutions for digital businesses, crypto-assets like bitcoin are expected
to grow significantly. After the crypto bubble burst at the beginning of 2018, countries began to properly establish regulation and the
infrastructure around crypto-assets, which has led to an increase in market liquidity. As a result, more investors are investing in cryptos as
alternative assets. The increasing investment needs for crypto-assets have, in turn, led to a high demand for a benchmark to appraise those
investments. In addition, there are more asset managers who manage crypto-asset index and ETF funds in conjunction with the benchmark,
which has led to its creation. NRI decided to develop the index with IU as they have sector expertise in crypto-assets and connections to
many crypto exchanges in the Japanese market. The “NRI/IU Crypto-Asset Index Family” can be used by institutional investors as a
benchmark for objective investment appraisal. Further, the new solution will allow crypto exchanges and financial information providers to
display charts and index values to investors to be used as objective criteria to evaluate their investments. The index is calculated with a
platform operated by MV Index Solutions GmbH; a company registered under the European benchmark regulation.

Qualcomm (USA) Introduces aptX Voice Audio Technology for Higher Quality Voice
Calls
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Solution Description
Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated introduces Qualcomm® aptX™ Voice audio, a new voice
codec that provides high definition voice quality over a connection using Bluetooth wireless technology. Voice intelligibility and understanding
are key to seamless communication over the phone and aptX Voice, a new feature of Qualcomm® aptX™ Adaptive audio technology, is
designed to significantly improve the quality of voice for those using Bluetooth accessories to make voice calls. Super wideband voice codecs
are used by providers to enhance call quality on mobile networks, which means that many consumers are already enjoying high quality voice
calls on their mobile devices. However, when they connect accessories that support the Bluetooth Handsfree Profile to make and receive voice
calls, they aren’t experiencing the same HD voice quality. In the same way that aptX was designed to improve the quality of music streaming
over Bluetooth wireless technology, aptX Voice has been designed to improve the voice call experience by delivering 32kHz voice call quality
within the Bluetooth Handsfree Profile so consumers can experience crystal clear voice calls. Consumers are embracing Bluetooth wireless
technology while increasingly demanding higher quality audio for both voice calls and music listening. For voice calls, today’s narrowband and
wideband codecs used within the Bluetooth Handsfree Profile can sometimes result in indistinguishable voices, muddled words, the inability to
distinguish from background noise and ultimately listener fatigue. aptX Voice can provide for a better user call experience by improving the
overall voice quality, thus putting less strain on the listener, particularly in environments such as call centers and other enterprise applications.
aptX Voice is designed to deliver 32kHz sampled audio with a flat 16kHz frequency response, providing the HD quality that consumers have
come to expect from the aptX family of audio codecs.

  • 11. Financial, M&A Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable LG (South Korea) Display Reports Fourth Quarter 2019 Results • Revenues in the fourth quarter of 2019 increased by 10% to KRW 6,422 billion from KRW 5,822 billion in the third quarter of 2019 and decreased by 8% from KRW 6,948 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018. • Operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2019 recorded KRW 422 billion. This compares with the operating loss of KRW 436 billion in the third quarter of 2019 and the operating profit of KRW 279 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018. • EBITDA in the fourth quarter of 2019 was KRW 586 billion, compared with EBITDA of KRW 613 billion in the third quarter of 2019 and with EBITDA of KRW 1,134 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018 • Net loss in the fourth quarter of 2019 was KRW 1,817 billion, compared with the net loss of KRW 442 billion in the third quarter of 2019 and the net income of KRW 153 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018. • LG Display registered KRW 6,422 billion in revenues and KRW 422 billion in operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2019. • The revenue increase of 10% quarter-on-quarter was driven by a rise in sales of large-size OLED panels for TVs and P-OLED (Plastic OLED) panels for smartphones which also resulted in an 18% increase of ASP (Average Sales Prices) compared to the previous quarter. • LG Display saw a rise in P-OLED shipments, as it secured a sound base for strategic customers for P-OLED in the fourth quarter. However, the company’s operating loss improvement on a quarter-on-quarter basis was limited due to an increase in fixed costs for full-scale P-OLED mass-production and additional costs for the company’s move towards structural innovation for its LCD business. • LG Display posted KRW 1,817 billion in net loss in the fourth quarter, reflecting asset impairment losses calculated by the K-IFRS standard, which are KRW 200 billion with the company’s withdrawal from the OLED Lighting business and KRW 1.4 trillion won due to the unfavorable circumstances for P-OLED business compared to when the initial decision on the investment was made. Executive Commentary “LG Display’s liability-to-equity ratio was temporarily increased in the fourth quarter due to the asset impairment, but this is expected to start to gradually improve down the road. The positive anticipation is that factoring in asset impairment this time means that uncertainty in the future is expected to be removed and possible fluctuation in the company’s future business is also expected to be reduced. In addition, depreciation costs will be reduced by KRW 300 billion each year in the next five years,” said CFO and Senior Vice President of LG Display. As the current business environment for P-OLED is somewhat challenging but also presents many business opportunities ahead, LG Display will consistently maintain our strategic direction regarding P-OLED business and build a sound base for growth. In addition, we will make efforts to achieve a significant revenue increase in large-size OLED panels as our OLED plant in China will ramp up production, and continue to stably manage forecasts for P-OLED panels for smartphones as well as for automobiles, for which we will increase shipments during the first half of this year. All these efforts will create meaningful opportunities for earnings improvement from the second half.” For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com Description 6

  • 40. Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable KYOCERA (Japan) Develops New Generation of High-Performance, Economical, Multi-functional Milling Cutters "MEV Series" For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 34 Solution Description Kyocera Corporation announced its new MEV series of efficient, multi-functional milling cutters for metal machining applications. The new product series, which includes six inserts and 25 holders, are now available worldwide. A milling cutter typically has cutting edges on its outer holder body and bottom, and is used to cut grooves and forms out of the surface of a metal workpiece. The process requires continuous improvement in cutting precision and efficiency to support the growing range of materials and applications demanded within many industries, including automotive and aerospace manufacturing. While a conventional milling cutter can deliver high rigidity and high-precision machining through increased web thickness, this often results in higher cutting forces that decreased efficiency. Alternatively, if efficiency is prioritized instead, the tool can become prone to vibration shock, which diminishes cutting accuracy. To overcome this longstanding challenge, Kyocera developed a unique "vertical triangle" insert design that delivers both high rigidity and lower cutting forces. Kyocera achieved longer product life and greater versatility by adjusting the angle of the cutting edges, increasing the rigidity of the holder body, and optimizing the insert shape to improve chip control.

  • 47. Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable NRI (Japan) Introduces “NRI/IU Crypto-Asset Index Family” - a benchmark for investment appraisal of crypto-assets For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 41 Solution Description Nomura Research Institute, Ltd., a leading provider of consulting services and system solutions, announced it has developed a benchmark for investment appraisal of crypto-assets – the “NRI/IU Crypto-Asset Index Family” – in coordination with Intelligence Unit LLC (IU). This new offering will be available through NRI’s financial information database, IDS, to domestic and overseas institutional investors, financial information vendors, and crypto exchanges beginning January 31. As a method to replace legal currency or raise funds for emerging digital companies that provide infrastructure and platform solutions for digital businesses, crypto-assets like bitcoin are expected to grow significantly. After the crypto bubble burst at the beginning of 2018, countries began to properly establish regulation and the infrastructure around crypto-assets, which has led to an increase in market liquidity. As a result, more investors are investing in cryptos as alternative assets. The increasing investment needs for crypto-assets have, in turn, led to a high demand for a benchmark to appraise those investments. In addition, there are more asset managers who manage crypto-asset index and ETF funds in conjunction with the benchmark, which has led to its creation. NRI decided to develop the index with IU as they have sector expertise in crypto-assets and connections to many crypto exchanges in the Japanese market. The “NRI/IU Crypto-Asset Index Family” can be used by institutional investors as a benchmark for objective investment appraisal. Further, the new solution will allow crypto exchanges and financial information providers to display charts and index values to investors to be used as objective criteria to evaluate their investments. The index is calculated with a platform operated by MV Index Solutions GmbH; a company registered under the European benchmark regulation.

  • 55. Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Qualcomm (USA) Introduces aptX Voice Audio Technology for Higher Quality Voice Calls For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 49 Solution Description Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated introduces Qualcomm® aptX™ Voice audio, a new voice codec that provides high definition voice quality over a connection using Bluetooth wireless technology. Voice intelligibility and understanding are key to seamless communication over the phone and aptX Voice, a new feature of Qualcomm® aptX™ Adaptive audio technology, is designed to significantly improve the quality of voice for those using Bluetooth accessories to make voice calls. Super wideband voice codecs are used by providers to enhance call quality on mobile networks, which means that many consumers are already enjoying high quality voice calls on their mobile devices. However, when they connect accessories that support the Bluetooth Handsfree Profile to make and receive voice calls, they aren’t experiencing the same HD voice quality. In the same way that aptX was designed to improve the quality of music streaming over Bluetooth wireless technology, aptX Voice has been designed to improve the voice call experience by delivering 32kHz voice call quality within the Bluetooth Handsfree Profile so consumers can experience crystal clear voice calls. Consumers are embracing Bluetooth wireless technology while increasingly demanding higher quality audio for both voice calls and music listening. For voice calls, today’s narrowband and wideband codecs used within the Bluetooth Handsfree Profile can sometimes result in indistinguishable voices, muddled words, the inability to distinguish from background noise and ultimately listener fatigue. aptX Voice can provide for a better user call experience by improving the overall voice quality, thus putting less strain on the listener, particularly in environments such as call centers and other enterprise applications. aptX Voice is designed to deliver 32kHz sampled audio with a flat 16kHz frequency response, providing the HD quality that consumers have come to expect from the aptX family of audio codecs.
