- Ideation: We get more than 400 ideas a week through the idea portal, customer requests, support tickets, etc.Dialogue: Sales organisations, account managers and the product team are constantly involved in customer and user dialogueProven practice: We know what works, constantly referring to research, school visits, best practices, etc.National guidelines: We adhere to legal, curriculum and education guidelines from the countries where we work Background: Much of proven practice is described by Professor John Hattie at University of Auckland, New Zealand. He has done a large study of 800 meta-analyses of education research in the US, the UK and Australia covering more than 50,000 studies, and has used this to summarise proven practice in the field of education. Hattie’s analysis has resulted in a table of 138 different approaches to raise achievement in schools – and his main conclusion is that both teaching and learning must be visible for all stakeholders in order to have an effect. The illustration shows the front cover of his book “Visible learning: A synthesis of over 800 meta-analyses relating to achievement”.As a summary of our roadmap, here is a list of measures (or factor inputs) that contribute to an increased learning outcome.The list is put together based on different sources, and the conclusion is clear: What teachers and learners do matters.
- The main message of this slide is to highlight that we are focusing on solving problems for the majority of our teachers – not the innovators and early adopters, who often are the most “vocal” end users. What does this mean? We will focus on issues like:Ease of use, UX enhancements, daily work processes in schools (i.e. timeslots and resource booking)Less is more, discontinue what’s barely usedSetup up the course for the teacher (i.e. LOs, timeslots and participants)Make best practice common practiceWhy do we focus on this group of people?No matter what we do, the innovators and early adopters will find their way to do what they want to do with itslearning. If we just listened to the early adopters, we would end-up with a product that is too complicated for most users. The majority, however, are the most important user group, because schools will only succeed with itslearning if the vast majority of teachers use itslearning regularly and well.

- We have added the option to add applications in early learner courses. - We are seeing an increased use of iOS devices among our users. Our goal is that the itslearning experience should be equally great, whatever device you are using. With this release, we are offering improved user experience when using iOS-based devices. iOS users can now get the full benefit of our new rich text editor across most of itslearning, and iOS 6 users will be able to upload content from their camera roll directly using the (built-in) Safari web browser.User can now:Edit rich text using iOS devicesUpload images and videos in iOS devices from Safari
- Tools for evaluating & assessing student performance based on learning objectives & standardsWeseethat learning objectives arebecomingincreasinglyimportant in teaching. Althoughwe have longsupportedtheuse of learning objectives in itslearning, we have plans to improve and buildonthissolution in thefuture.The first step is to improvethequality of ourexistingframework for supporting learning objectives.Wewillensurethat curriculum objectives arealways up to date and correct in itslearning, and make it easier for organisations to have consistent learning objectives acrosscourses &classes and over time. - A key principle for itslearning is that it should be usable by all users, including users who are visually impaired. To improve the experience for these users, we are working on a high contrast skin.
- The organisational API will allow trusted 3rd parties to create integration between itslearning and other systems, and access data for specific schools or sites. It can be specified down to school level (so schools within a site can have their own integrations). This access to information is essential if 3rd parties are to create apps. With this API we can open up more areas of itslearning core data for customers, and also offer access to school data from school systems, facilitate support for data aggregation systems at school level, provide a framework for the integration of time table systems that want to push/pull data to itslearning, offer data exchange to our customers and support the long term goals in countries for data exchange between itslearning and systems such as Scolastance. This API framework will help answer bids and tenders where specific data exchange is required and where the current data-exchange APIs are fragmented and not scalable. The new solution will be configured through the UI, providing local control with Global oversight. We can provide a solid foundation for local subsidiaries and partners sharing key teaching and learning data with other applications, driving usage and embedding the solution.Some example methods:ReadCoursesReadUsersReadCourseMemberships

- The personal API allows trusted third-parties to access information on individual users (teachers, students and parents). - A fully documented itslearning SSO system, where itslearning can act as both identity provider and service provider. This will provide a single point of authentication through an itslearning IdP and WAYF service based on SAML2.0.Totally separate the itslearning application from authentication.Toolkit features:SSO certificates and metadata can to be administered through UI.Simplify the process of adding a new 3rd party SSO systems. - We are a platform and not a closed system. This means third-parties can create apps and extensions to itslearning. It also enables us to integrate with partners to ensure a better experience for our customers (such as plagiarism control and Qlikview). This gives our customers all the benefits of a closed-source system (reduced maintenance, support, data security, etc.) as well as the freedom of an open-source system (anyone can develop apps and integrate with itslearning).More collaborations with partners (Microsoft,BB Collaborate and others)Content partners, such as publishers is an option we are consideringService providers, such as GP-Untis, are also being consideredApp suppliers (we already have more than 100 apps today and will have more in the future)

- itslearning’s vision has always been to be a learning platform for all teachers and students, regardless of the hardware or software they use. This vision underscores our development as a Software as a Service company, and it has enabled us to build-up the large customer base that we have today. This vision is also at the centre of our policy on mobile devices.We want our customers to have the same high-quality user experience on all devices and operating systems. We’ve already achieved this for computers and laptops – itslearning can be used on pretty much any computer browser. We’re now concentrating on achieving the same results on mobile operating systems. This will involve developing a single web interface that works on all devices, including mobile devices.By developing a single web interface that works perfectly on all devices, we can ensure that our customers have the same seamless user experience on any computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone.This is essential for our future success, because different schools are looking into different tablets/smartphones and we need to be able to support them all. It give our customers the power to choose which tablet or smartphone they use – and will help ensure itslearning is recognised as the ideal learning platform for all teachers and all devices/operating systems.The itslearning mobile device development stagesYou can already log into itslearning on most mobile devices to check your messages, updates and assignments, but we have some improvements to make. Here’s how the process will work.1. Make sure our current system works well on all mobile devicesRight now, you can already log onto itslearning from any mobile device as long as you’re connected to the internet. But there is still some functionality, such as the Rich Text Editor, that isn’t supported on all devices. Our first task is to ensure that the basic itslearning functionality and interface is seamless on all devices.2. Make it possible for people to create their own appsWe’re also starting work on a personal API that enables anyone to create apps for itslearning – whether they are for iOS, Android or another operating system. Anyone could then develop an itslearning app and, if they wish, distribute it to itslearning users free of charge or sell it through the App Store, Android Market or another app market.3. Understand how different mobile devices can support teaching and learning processesMobiles and tablets are still very new innovations in schools, so we need to understand how these devices will be used in an educational setting. A number of schools are trialling tablet and mobile technology in teaching and we’re watching carefully to see the results.4. Create the perfect itslearning web interfaceThe final stage is to redesign our current itslearning web interface to ensure it gives our users a fantastic experience when using itslearning on any device, including mobile devices. This will involve looking into new technology, such as HTML5 and web apps, so all functionality is available and optimised for the device and screen size.
