  • Thanks Joan – I’m really excited about being here to share some of this information with you. I do want to say Thank You to Lisa Constantine and the folks at SBTV.com who have contributed their expertise to the product review section and the best practices sections of this presentation. Their business is sharing information with video, so I’m glad we got this info from the pro’s. So you’ve heard a little about ME – now let’s all get to know each other a little bit better. We’re going to start the session off with a poll question. Joan?
  • You can make videos using anything from a standard digital camera to using a high end TV camera with a video crew. Chances are – like Goldilocks – one isn’t enough and the other is too much. Today – we’ve picked a couple of products that we think you’ll find are just right. You can buy these at just about any big box store.
  • AFTER THE CAMERA TALK We’ve got another poll question coming up now --
  • There are basically two kinds of video editing tools out there – online and desktop. I’ve chosen to focus mostly on online tools because they are either free or affordable. YouTube Video Editor- This isn’t as easy to find as you think – you’re going to need that scary link. But it IS easy to use. JayCut – this is an online editor that I’ve used. It’s free, easy to use and loads easily to YouTube and your sites. SpotMixer is a new tool I’ve recently discovered. They allow you to upload photographs or use some of their pre-loaded business-themed photos, add some short copy, upload and voila – you’ve got yourself a commercial with music or pre-recorded audio and you are ready to go. Now there is a cost associated with this one. But if it’s what you’re looking for- then it’s a steal. Movie Masher – this is an open sourced desktop application that’s ideal if you’ve got technical and video editing skills. It allows you to do advanced video editing.
  • Don’t let the possibilities of video confuse you – there are really only 3 basic categories of video Demonstration Education Entertainment
  • Will it Blend – is a classic example that you’ve probably seen too much of already. But I’m going to focus on a couple of features that are set this video up as a great demonstration video. They are showing you how a physical product works They are focusing on the key differentiating feature and competitive advantage of this product – the blades They throw in emotion – the use of an iPod – an item we know is expensive and that we LOVE And a dash of entertainment – the watching of the iPod turn to dust
  • The next two examples are great EDUCATION videos. It’s the HOW TO – that makes them uniquely educational. They go through a specific series of steps and end with a finished product.
  • This is Isaiah Mustafa – football star – Old Spice not your grandfather’s after shave Mustafa started responding to questions he received on YouTube and Twitter from the audience It was a viral hit
  • Here’s why Made to Stick is a best seller that answers the question of why urban legends go viral while useful information whithers on the vine. Simple- Strip it to the core – focus on ONE thing the DIFFERENTIATING FEATURE or IDEA Unexpected – Violate expectations – the Old Spice videos completely throw us for a loop with their absurd authenticity Concrete – Be visceral and visual – remember the make it blend, what about the old Halloween story of razors in apples? Credible – The idea has to stand on its own as being true – Think of Ronald Reagan asking If you were better of today than four years ago – you ask yourself and you know the answer. Emotional – Appeal to the individual as much as possible, people relate to people not numbers. Stories – stories make everything memorable – we learn business and marketing concepts via case studies. Stories make concepts stick
  • After these points – We’ve got a poll coming up next! – It’s about which video camera you’d choose.
  • Based on what you’ve heard – Which of these cameras do you prefer? ·         Flip ·         Kodak ·         Another brand
