Everywhere but now
The Mediterranean region with its people struggles
against economic violent changes and crises of national
identity.
“ Everywhere but now” relates closely the question of space –
diverse in the Mediterranean area with the question of
time of creation in our contemporary world.

6. ‘Everywhere but now’
The art exhibition
The central exhibition of the 4thThessaloniki Biennale presents
original artworks from more then fifty artists from the
Mediterranean area, but also from India, Iran, Brazil and Cuba,
who emphasize the contribution of Mediterranean cultures and
mentalities to political, economic, artistic and technological
growth around the Mediterranean.Through their artworks, they
reaffirm that dialogue can help to overcome prejudice and cultural
barriers.

The artworks challenge the past and the present of
Thessaloniki by being displayed at diverse and historic
locations, including theArchaeological Museum, the
Museum of Byzantine Culture, the Macedonian Museum
of Contemporary Art and at the Moni Lazariston, built in
1886 by the monks of the Order of Lazarists, which is
now the State Museum hosting the prestigious Russian
Avant-Garde of Costakis Collection.
8. A new and significant gesture honors the tradition of
Thessaloniki of attracting traders from all over the Balkans
since the Byzantine era. For the first time, the 4th Biennale
provides to the Central Exhibition 4th Pavillion 6, a 2500sqm
space in the city center, part of the InternationalTrade Fair of
Thessaloniki
9. In the register of wonder that art is for every human
being, Everywhere but Now wishes to be an interactive, powerful
and subtle face-to-face, where the visitor will discover some of
today’s composite artistic realities around the Mediterranean,
and further more.
