The Emperor Hirohito 1926-1989
In 1905, Russia challenged Japan. The Japanese snuck
fleet at Port Author, with a surprise attack.
Next , the Russian Czar ordered another fleet all
around the world to bomb Japan.
The Japanese sunk this Russian fleet as well, and took
all of Manchuria.
Japan did not get lots of Land in the Treaty of
Portsmouth, brokered by Teddy Roosevelt
A Japanese Empire.
• During WW1, Japan allied with the USA and moved into
Korea, they also took German colonies in China.
They also conquer German Tsingtao (Taiwan) in 1914
In 1932, they took Manchuria.
• The Japanese made the ex Chinese Emperor Pu Yi a
puppet ruler of Manchukuo (Manchuria).
• The Japanese said they
were liberating the
people from foreigners.
During World War 2 Japan allied with Nazi Germany.

In the USA, Franklin Roosevelt did not want Japan to have
an Empire, so he shut off their oil supply.

• Japan surrendered after President Truman dropped
