WHO WOULD BE THE
AUDIENCE OF YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT? HOW
DID YOU
ATTRACT/ADDRESS
YOUR AUDIENCE?
Jade Mason
What is the DEMOGRAPHICS of
your target audience?
 Age: 11-20
 Gender: Female
 Social Class: D
 Ethnicity: White
How did the genre of your music
magazine attract them?
 Age: I have considered many things that would attract a young audience,
aged 11-20. Firstly I avoided completely formal language, especially in my
double page spread. This made it more accessible for the younger
audiences. I also chose to have a young artist on the cover so that it is
relatable for people of/around that ages, e.g. younger audience would look
up to her and others of her age would find her experiences relatable, as
they are her age too.
 Gender: I have considered many things that would attract a Female
audience; firstly I used a female artist in my double page spread and main
image/contents page image and double page spread feature as this would
be relatable and accessible for the female audience. I also featured artists
of the male gender as many females are interested in the ‘dreamy’ and ‘hot’
male heartthrob artists.
 Social Class: I have considered many this that would attract and appeal to
unskilled employed workers; I made my language accessible to people that
would be from a lower social class from sticking away from words that
wouldn’t typically be used/heard on a daily basis. I used simplistic layouts
and didn’t cover too much of the page as a lot of text could deter an
How did the genre of your music
magazine attract them?
 Ethnicity: I used an artist who is the same ethnicity as my target
demographic so that they can relate to them. I also features cover
lines that included artists of the same ethnicity.
What images did you take, use and
edit to attract your audience?
 I took many images for my magazine; here is the contact
sheet.
What images did you take, use and
edit to attract your audience?
 Shot types: I used mostly full body shots for my Double page spread. I used wide shots for my
contents and I used close up for my front cover.
 Models: I used a young, female model for my images so that they would appel to my target
audience. I chose to have a young artist on the cover so that it is relatable for people of/around
that ages, e.g. younger audience would look up to her and audiences of her age would find her
experiences relatable, as they are her age too.
 Costume: I originally chose Annie to have three different outfits for the three different pages in
my magazine however one of the costumes didn’t work due to colour issues. I chose to have
one outfit being chilled and casual due to my questionnaire response. This attracts my audience
because the clothes were affordable and accessible for the unskilled working class, female
audience as they will aspire to dress fashionable, like her. I also chose a white coloured dress
which will appeal to my female audience because females tend to love dresses and it appeals to
younger audiences because younger girls tend to dress in short dresses. Even though my
target audience is female, it will attract males because she will appear attractive in a nice dress
that shows off her best features.
 Props: I used one prop for my images; I used a guitar due to the magazine being a music
magazine. This will attract my YAKS who aspire to be like Annie, talented and current. It could
also influence them to go out and learn an instrument.
 Edits: I edited my images in a certain way to appeal to my target audience. I added lots of
brightness to my images which will attract a younger audience, my target audience. I also
How did your choice of models
conform/subvert stereotypes of the music
genre that you chose?
 My chose of model conformed the stereotype of Rock/Pop due to many reasons;
firstly she is young and fresh which appeals to the pop side of the genre. Pop also
stereotypically links to Females as most artists in the pop charts are female at this
current moment. She subverts the stereotype of pop because she appears
empowering and strong whereas normally they would appear sexualised and a bad
influence.
 She subverts the Rock side of the Rock/pop genre because she subverts the
stereotypical aggressive look for a rock artists. E.g. they would stereotypically wear
dark clothing and heavy makeup, whereas Annie wore light clothing and minimal
makeup which shows that its about the music not about the look.
How does your cover lines and main
double page spread story attract your
audience?
 Cover lines: My cover lines attracted my audience through the fact
that they stick to the rock/pop genre which is the genre that most
wanted to see. Due to using Q as my influence I only featured
names of artists featured in the magazine rather than typical cover
lines that address the reader. This resulted in myself not using any
devices like puns, alliteration, personal pronouns. To improve I
would add more of them to attract and pull in my audience. I did
however use formal language that was professional but not too
extreme so that my younger audiences from an unskilled working
class background could access and understand the language.
 Main double page spread: My main double page spread included
devices that attracted my audience; because my spread was an
interview rather than a story I chose to use an interview. I include a
Q&A from twitter to attract/appeal/include my younger audiences as
they are stereotypically social media heavy, therefore it is
accessible for them. I used slightly informal, chatty language to
again attract to the young unskilled working class background.
What kind of marketing campaigns do you think would
attract your target audience when your magazine is
released?
 I would use many marketing campaigns to attract my
target audience to read my magazine; I would
predominantly use social media because my target
audience are young and unskilled employed workers
which would all typically access social media accounts
on a daily basis. It is a large platform therefore by
simply making a page on Facebook or making a Twitter
account it could easily reach thousand of people
quickly. I would also use TV and radio as they are
accessed every day by a wide variety of people which
will extend and broaden my audience further.
 Finally I will use merchandising such as T-shirts,
Banners and Posters which will attract my target
audience as young YAKS will be influenced by other
people their age which will encourage more people who
find the magazine and enjoy it to get more merchendise
which will cause a chain reaction.
