international Hotel for 9 Years.
Worked as a Professor
He started as an English tutor and earned 12$ per

him to visiting the United States for the first time in
1995 where he discovered the Internet.

4. BUSSINESS IDEA
During his first encounter to internet he searched the
word "beer". Although he found information related to
beer from many countries, he was surprised to find none
from China. Further, he tried to search for general
information about China and was again surprised to find
none. So he and his friend created an "ugly" website
related to China. He launched the website at 9:40 AM
and by 12:30 PM he had received emails from some
Chinese people, wishing to know about him. This is
when Ma realized that the Internet had something great
to offer.
5. Ma utilized opportunity of EXPORT BOOM
Formation of Alibaba 5
In April 1995, Ma, his wife and a friend went around, asked for USD
20,000, and started their first company. Their company was
dedicated to creating websites for companies. He named their
company "China Yellow Pages .” Within three years, his company had
made USD 800,000.
Later Ma was pressured into a joint venture with China Telecom and
ultimately lost control of the company, according to The New York
Times.
From 1998 to 1999, Ma headed an information technology company
established by the China International Electronic Commerce Center, a
department of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic
Cooperation. In 1999, he quit and returned to Hangzhou with his
team to found Alibaba, a China-based business-to-business
marketplace site in his apartment with a group of 18 friends. He
started a new round of venture development with USD 60,000
6. Alibaba Group
In October 1999 and January 2000, Alibaba twice won a total of a $25
million foreign venture capital investment. The program was expected to
improve the domestic e-commerce market and perfect an e-commerce
platform for Chinese enterprises, especially small and medium-sized
enterprises (SMEs), to address World Trade Organization (WTO)
challenges. Ma wanted to improve the global e-commerce system and
from 2003 he founded Taobao Marketplace, Alipay, Ali Mama and Lynx.
After the rapid rise of Taobao, eBay offered to purchase the company.
However, Ma rejected their offer, instead garnering support
from Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang with a $1 billion investment.

Road Blocks
Jack Ma is currently worth $27.9 billion. Yet Ma once made $12 per month as an English
teacher (though he was still content).
His achievements are practically unbelievable considering his meager, humble beginnings.
Along the way, he failed more times (and more spectacularly) than most of us could
stomach in a lifetime.
Here are six ways Ma experienced soul-crushing failure, but managed to keep his optimism,
just like his hero Forrest Gump

Didn’t give up after failing many exams at school
There’s a tradition of other great minds, including Albert Einstein,
Winston Churchill, and Abraham Lincoln (along with Forrest
Gump) struggled early in life with academics but going on to do
great things.
Told his 18 Alibaba partners that none of them could be
more than a Manager
Couldn’t convince Silicon Valley to fund Alibaba
After he started Alibaba, he suffered multiple failures. It wasn’t
profitable for the first three years , Alibaba was just 18 months away
from bankruptcy.
Rejected by KFC & Police
Out of 24 KFC applicants in his pool, 23 were hired. Ma was the
only one to be rejected. He attributes this largely to his lack of
good looks and short stature.
Stayed optimistic after being turned down for 30 jobs.
After graduating from college, he applied to 30 different jobs and was
subsequently rejected by all of them.
Wasn’t deterred after being rejected from
Harvard 10 times.
The important thing you should have is patience.
