In my journey to Mastery, I hope to find a mentor that has at least a few of the
following attributes:
 Patience:
Being a mentor is like being a parent. It takes equal parts caring, understanding and sometimes
“tough love”. Patience is a skill that will allow the mentor to remain calm when at times
tempers may be getting the best of people.
 Be a role model:
Setting a great example and a high level of expectation for the mentee to rise to is crucial for
getting the best out of individuals.
 Committed to the role of mentoring:
They have to realize that at times, it can be thankless and tiresome but despite that, they are
willing to continue the role of working to get the best out of people and having a positive
impact on others.
 Open to sharing as much as possible:
Having the ability to choose experiences that they feel are appropriate and helpful,
while also sharing the mistakes and failures not just the successes.
 Want the mentee to succeed
They realize that they are not in a competition and want individuals to be successful.
 Has great experience
They have done a number of things within the field while maintaining a good reputation and
being esteemed by colleagues in the professional community

  • 15. In my journey to Mastery, I hope to find a mentor that has at least a few of the following attributes:  Patience: Being a mentor is like being a parent. It takes equal parts caring, understanding and sometimes “tough love”. Patience is a skill that will allow the mentor to remain calm when at times tempers may be getting the best of people.  Be a role model: Setting a great example and a high level of expectation for the mentee to rise to is crucial for getting the best out of individuals.  Committed to the role of mentoring: They have to realize that at times, it can be thankless and tiresome but despite that, they are willing to continue the role of working to get the best out of people and having a positive impact on others.  Open to sharing as much as possible: Having the ability to choose experiences that they feel are appropriate and helpful, while also sharing the mistakes and failures not just the successes.  Want the mentee to succeed They realize that they are not in a competition and want individuals to be successful.  Has great experience They have done a number of things within the field while maintaining a good reputation and being esteemed by colleagues in the professional community
