2. The Name
We chose to call our artist ‘Forrest Blake’ because it perfectly
represents the type of music that he will be producing –
indie/alternative with perhaps some slight hints of pop. Forrest
Blake is a name that stands out, but isn’t too unfamiliar either.
We based the name from an artist we discovered called ‘Hudson
Thames’ who produces similar music and his name has the
desired effect of pre-empting what his sound is like.

3. The Sound
We decided to go for an indie-electro sound, which
is increasingly popular. Musically, this may be
similar to artists such as Alt-J or Gorgon City,
although we don’t want to reflect that in his image.
We have decided to use the song Lovely Day by Alt-J
for the music video and his lead single – this
perfectly characterises the sort of music that would
be produced by Forrest Blake.
4. The Look
Forrest Blake will always be dressed in clothes that are
easily accessible from high street retailers. This will make
him both relatable and, if his fans admire his fashion
choices, it makes it easy for them to replicate his outfits
and, in that sense, he could become an ‘icon’.
His dress should be simple, plain clothing – suggesting to
listeners that if they want to discover more about Forrest
Blake they will need to delve deeper than the music and
listen to his music (this is most evident with artists such
as Dan Croll).
5. The Audience
We will be targeting Forrest Blake to a 17 to 24
market – these fans are known as ‘social sharers’,
people who are likely to pass on/spread content
and music that they like and enjoy rather than just
keeping it to themselves. This is vital as in media if
it doesn’t spread, it’s dead.
Whilst we have no preference over gender, it’s likely
that he will be consumed more by a male audience
than a female audience, as we won’t be exploiting
the artists’ looks during the campaign.
6. The Image
Through marketing, it will be important to ensure that
Forrest Blake is perceived as both connect to his fans, but
also that there is mystery… a distance between him and
everybody else.
This ‘distance’ is important in attracting interest to him as
people can get overwhelmed if an artist is too
transparent. So, whilst we will be using social media to
ensure that Forrest Blake is connected and his fans feel
like they are apart of his journey, distance will be created
through other materials such as the music video, website
and DigiPack.
