Establish A Healthy Competition For Employees To Perform Better
How can you motivate your employees to work harder to achieve a common goal? It is important for
employees to work as they should even during the absence of your strict supervision.

Motivation is one vital component to encourage your employees to work towards excellence. It is also
important for employees to be satisfied and contented with their work and their work place. You need to
avoid resignations or mediocre workers who give every little dedication to their jobs; those who are only
concerned of their next pay checks.

There are many ways on how to motivate your employees. One of which is giving out reasonable
employee incentives. This needs time and resources, why? Because you need to know your employees
well before giving incentives to whoever deserves them, and these incentives should be worth the extra
hard work that an employee exerts to achieve them after a set period of time.

You need to set guidelines first. These guidelines should be strictly followed, and whoever manages to
follow these guidelines gets his incentives. Procedures should be established, and the program should be
monitored and evaluated. You should be able to keep track of updates. You should be able to follow
progress reports of employees. These keep things exciting. It is like being in a race. Make sure to provide
general updates to all your employees, so they will know how far they need to go.

There are a few good incentives you can grant to your employees. Choose among the few listed
below:

    •   Establish a points program. You can set up a program where particular small achievements
        accumulate points. Once a certain set point is reached, the employee receives a little something
        as an incentive.



        It is good if you made the points visible to others. That can encourage participation and establish
        competition.



    •   Granting flexible work hours. This is one of the most attractive employee incentives. This
        incentive enables employees to choose their own schedules or work hours. You can make them
        choose between two options:



        (a) They will be allowed to create their own schedule to follow for a certain amount of time; or



        (b) They will decide for themselves when to start working, when to have breaks, and when to
            end, every day in a certain period of time.



            This type of incentive benefits both the workers and you. The company does not need to shell
            out money, and the employees are more than happy to receive it.
•   Free Wellness Memberships

        For someone to be more productive in his workplace, he needs to avoid whatever type of illness.
        Many people want to go to the gym or do yoga maybe three times a week. However, the
        membership fee is a little overwhelming, especially to those who already have a family. You can
        either provide a lifetime discounts on gyms, yoga, or dance class, or pay the membership fee for
        a period of time. Your employees will surely work hard for this one. Nowadays, it is important to
        stay fit and healthy.



    •   A time to Chill

        If you’ve worked hard enough, you need to reward yourself- take a few days off; take a few days
        off with pay! That is something a lot- or if not, all employees would like to hear from their bosses.
        Even if your company already has this kind of benefit for your employees, an additional paid
        holiday is still something employees will really strive for. If you cannot come up with more
        personalized employee incentives, this is the best that you can do; make the employers
        personalize their incentives on their own.



    •   Paid Training Opportunities

        Going back to school or enrolling in comprehensive trainings or seminars for more inputs about
        his profession is something a lot of employees dream about. A reimbursement of expenses will
        surely spark the interests of employees. This is also for the benefit of the company. A more
        knowledgeable worker has more productive, excellent outputs!



If you have other incentives in mind, you may as well stick to them. However, you really need to set
specific guidelines for employees to follow, as mentioned earlier.



Whatever the incentive is, you need to make sure that the guidelines and goals are clear. Make sure they
are attainable. The goals should be based on the company’s target goals. Choose from different
motivating employee incentives to drive your workers to strive for excellence.



When employees love their environment, they are more productive. They aim for better results. The
employees contribute a huge part of the company’s success. They should also feel that success.



One more important thing: if you should acknowledge somebody, make sure you do it publicly. Do not just
merely grant his incentive in private. By all means, recognize him. It increases the employee’s- together
with all the other employees’- morale and respect for you.
