Architect Christopher Alexander published A Pattern Language in 1977, which outlined 253 patterns to guide the creation of livable places. The patterns ranged from large town scales to small construction details. The document then analyzes Ara Damansara township in Malaysia and how it aligns with some of Alexander's patterns. Ara Damansara is a mixed-use development with residential, commercial, and industrial areas surrounded by greenery. While its transportation infrastructure could be improved, its traffic system connects highways to main roads to local paths in accordance with Alexander's theories.
