UNDERSTANDING DISCIPLINE AND
PEDAGOGY-LAN GUAGE

Language is one of the unique creations of
man. It is most momentous and the most
mysterious product of human mind.
The English word- “language” is derived from
the Latin word- “Lingua” which means-
tongue.
Language is the method of human
communication eaither spoken or written
consisting of the use of words in a structure
and conventional way.
 Dr. Sweet defines -”Language is the expression
of ideas by means of which speech sounds are
combined into sentences and combination of
sentence gives shape to ideas and thoughts.”
 B.M.H.STRONG “Language is an articulated
system of sign primarily in the medium of speech”
 In 1881 Bihar government adopted Hindi as
the sole official language of the state.
 The late P.M Pt Jawaharlal Neharu was an
erudite scholar and distinguish stylish of
English.
 Mahatma Gandhi wrote-It is my opinion that
English Education in the manner it has been
given as emasculated the English educated
Indins.
 Soon after the India achieved Independence
there arose a controversy among the people
whether the study of English should be
continued in India as a compulsory subject
or not.
 And later as per the official language bill of
1967 most of the state in India made
compulsory regional language as official
language
 In India English is not taught at the primary
stage
 English is the language of modern world and
Considered as “ QUEEN OF ALL LANGUAGE”
 The power of language is a measure of one’s
ability to communicate effectively in given
language. Specially one that is not nativeto
the speaker.
 It has two major components
-Ability to speak and to be understand
-Ability to listen and to understand
 It is a standardized variety of a language.
 It should posses both written and spoken
mode
 The Identity of language includes its perception,
understanding, expression and articulation when
non – native speakers use to communicate.
 Language is representation of ethnic group or
religion or society.
 “Language is the mother of thought, not its
handmaiden”
 Presupposition: represents some of the most
powerful of language patterns.
 Implicative: It is technical term in pragmatic
subfield of linguistics
 Pronunciation Grammer and vocabulary
 Parallelism: It is when elements of a sentence
have the same weight and are often same part of
speech.
 The importance of language in the life of any
human being needs no emphasis.
 Language plays a very important role in the
all round development of a child.
 Individual with strong language power posses
the ability to communicate effectively
A medium of instruction or mediums of
instruction is a language used in teaching.
It may or may not be the official language of
the country or terriory.
If the first language of students is different
from the official language, it may be used as
the medium of instruction for part or all of
schooling.
