2.  Holistic education is based on the premise that each person finds
identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the
community, to the natural world, and to spiritual values such as
compassion and peace.
 The approach aims to develop an intrinsic reverence for life, and a
love of learning in students.
 The purpose of holistic education is not only to prepare students
for academic success, but to also enable them to learn the
challenges of living as a whole, by learning about themselves,
healthy relationships, social responsibility, compassion, etc.

3.  Emotional literacy is based on the premise
that only when children feel emotionally safe
and secure in their environment, will they
undertake the challenges and risks needed to
learn.
 Successful learning can only take place where
recognition and praise are given not only for
what is correct, but for effort, and for
solutions found through collaboration.

4.  The approach incorporates strategies for
developing the emotional intelligence of
students while providing their academic
instruction.
 It helps students to recognize, understand and
express their emotions in a productive manner.
 Similarly, it also helps them listen to others, and
empathize with their emotions.

5.  Holistic education approaches are practiced
in a limited manner in some public schools.
 They are practiced more prevalently in
alternative schools including home schools.
