Lung cancer arises from mutations in lung cells that cause abnormal and uncontrolled growth. It is the leading cause of cancer death in men and second leading in women. Tobacco use is responsible for almost 90% of lung cancer cases. Secondhand smoke exposure is another risk factor for non-smokers and can lead to lung cancer and other health issues like hearing loss in children. observed a rate of lung cancer on
males in south central Los Angeles.
• In southcentral Los Angeles there
air sampling has indicated an excess
of certain polynuclear aromatic
hydrocarbons.
