Nature’s problem solvers In a handful of soil there are around 5,000 different microorganisms. They are nature’s workhorses, recycling garbage and releasing essential products back into the environment; they also produce the enzymes and other proteins that can be used to solve problems in industries and homes all over the world.Growing better all the time Using the oldest known biotechnology – fermentation – Novozymes grows microorganisms in large tanks. In 24 hours, one microorganism turns into trillions of microorganisms that all produce the enzymes and other proteins we require.
Microorganisms Novozymes offers microorganisms to industries such as institutional and industrial cleaning,wastewater treatment, agriculture, and aquaculture. One example is a biofertilizer where microorganismsenhance the crops’ capability to utilize natural phosphate. This reduces the need for phosphate fertilizer.Enzymes Novozymes sells the enzymes produced by the microorganisms in the tank to more than 130 countries around the world. One example is the textile industry in which the enzymes reduce the use of harsh chemicals, energy, and water, which means reduced costs and a cleaner environment.Other proteins - Novozymes sells other proteins produced by the microorganisms in the tank for use in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. One example is hyaluronic acid, which can be used both as a unique moisturizer for the skin and as a medical device for the treatment of rheumatism, both reducing suffering and permitting an improved quality of life.
