This document discusses the importance of soil conservation for agriculture and the economy in areas with slopes. It notes that soil takes a hundred years to form one centimeter but that each year almost 4 tons of soil are lost due to erosion, especially in Central American countries where much agriculture occurs on slopes. Soil conservation measures like hedgerows, dead barriers, leveled curves, and drains can help avoid losing up to 16 tons of soil per year, preserving the soil and its fertility to support better quality crops and incomes for people living on slopes.

2. • Soil is the most important resource in
agriculture. It provides to the plants
everything they need.

3. • It is estimated that every year almost 4
tons of soil are lost

Salvador and Honduras is developed on
slopes.

6. • And most of the poor people lives on
slopes.

7. • The practice of agriculture on slopes causes
the lost of until 16 tons of soil

8. • All that soil goes to the rivers and then to the
ocean.

9. • So that soil can´t be recovered.

10. • And the soil on slopes is each year less.

11. • So if the soil is less, there is less fertility in the
soil to grow crops.

12. • And the quality of our food is lower
than what it was years ago

13. The two main causes of the soil lost, better
called erosion.

14. • Hydric erosion.

15. • Eolic erosion.

16. The question is. Which could be the solution to
avoid and control this big problem?
The answer: Soil conservation measures on
slopes.

17. • There are many things we can do to conserve
the soil and it´s fertility by practicing
a well done agriculture.

18. • Creating hedgerows on slopes.

19. By creating dead
barriers with rocks.

20. • By implementing leveled curves.

21. • By making drains.

22. • So that way, we can conserve the soil and its
fertility.

23. • And the people who lives on slopes will
produce better crops with better qualities and
will earn more money
