Keep Cool and
Save Money—
Three Ways to Cut
Cooling Costs
1. Lower the Cooling Load
Reducing the amount of
heat that gets in your
house will keep your air
conditioner from working
as hard, and that means
lower energy bills for you.
A few ways to lower your
home’s cooling load
include:
l Shading your windows
and roof.
l Incorporating high-albedo (or white)
surfaces, such as a cool roof, and increasing
your home’s insulation.
l Seal windows and doors to decrease
excess air leakage.
l Also keep in mind that internal heat
sources, such as your oven, can add to your
cooling load.
2. Don’t Cool More
Than You Need
Why waste money cooling spaces you
aren’t using? Instead:
l Raise your thermostat when you are at
work or shut off your air conditioner when
on vacation.
l Close registers in rooms you are not using.
l Incorporate ventilative cooling into your
home—such as whole-house cooling fans,
economizers (a technology that pulls in
outside air when it is cooler than the air in
the house) and evaporative cooling, when
conditions permit.
3. Improve the Efficiency
of Your Equipment
Improving efficiency means keeping
equipment in tune.
l Make sure your system has proper
airflow.
l Keep your system fully charged and your
air filters clean.
l Reduce any duct leakage and insulate
ducts if possible.
l For longer-term investments, consider
replacing your air conditioner. New high
efficiency cooling equipment uses
substantially less energy to provide the
same cooling services as old equipment.

Celebrate MAY!
As April Showers give way to flowers, May
is the month we celebrate spring and
anticipate the arrival of summer. This is the
time to bring out the patio furniture, fire
up the grill, and ready the hammock. It’s
also a time to let your garden draw you
outdoors to enjoy its abundance of color
and fragrance.
May Day began as a spring festival long
ago and today is often remembered with
May baskets of treats and sweets to share
with friends and loved ones.
Mother’s Day is Sunday May 10th. Honor
your mom with breakfast in bed or a
special day planned just for her! Did you
know that Mother’s Day is considered the
busiest restaurant day of the year? Make
your reservations early!
Memorial Day is a day to fly the American
Flag to remember and honor those who
have died serving our country. It’s also a
day of family gatherings—and also marks
the beginning of summer, picnic and
grilling season.

Simple, Affordable Home Improvements
Ready to trade your mittens for rubber gloves? As spring arrives, along with it
comes the spring cleaning season. The bathroom is the first place homeowners
look to make drastic changes. So why not consider these easy tips and
affordable improvements?
l Save the Counter—Does your bathroom countertop turn into a space for
clutter? Try mounting some easy-to-install shelves where you can store your
toothbrush, make-up, and other personal items that tend to take up precious
counter space.
l Hamper Damper—Are clothes strewn through your “loo?” Procure a
medium-sized clothing hamper to help the whole family keep the bathroom
floor free of socks, pants, shirts and more.
l Curtain Call—A new, colorful shower curtain can bring new life to your
bathroom.
Spread cream cheese evenly
over one side of each slice of
bread.
Divide raspberries evenly to
half of the slices. Top with
remaining bread slices—cream
cheese sides down—to make
"sandwiches".
Combine beaten eggs, half
and half, sugar, vanilla, and salt
in shallow bowl.
1 (8oz) package cream cheese softened
12 (3/4 inch thick) slices Challah or
Hawaiian bread
1 cup fresh raspberries
3 eggs (beaten)
3/4 cups half and half
3 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 dash of salt
Pure maple syrup
