from the colloquial name for the book given to students at the
start of the academic year by some American university
administrations to help students get to know each other.
Facebook was founded in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg
with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University
students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz
and Chris Hughes. The website's membership was initially
limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded
to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford
University. It gradually added support for students at various
other universities before opening to high school students, and
eventually to anyone aged 13 and over.

Myspace was launched in August 2003 and is

June 2012, Myspace had 25 million unique U.S.

website for people in professional occupations.
Founded in December 2002 and launched on
May 5, 2003, it is mainly used for professional
networking. As of June 2013, LinkedIn reports
more than 225 million acquired users in more
than 200 countries and territories.
