3. Corruption causes public funds – which could have been used to develop infrastructure such as
roads, improve public institutions such as schools and hospitals, and improve the delivery of
necessities such as light and water- to instead be used to increase the wealth of comparatively few
people. Corruption increases poverty and reduces opportunities for job creation and investment.
It may also cause a brain drain, where former contributors to a country’s economy may choose to
leave due to their frustration and disillusionment.
Corruption destabilizes our society. It causes people to live in fear, undermines government and
democracy, and impedes development and order. Corruption causes us to lose faith in our
politicians, leading to a system that is neither transparent nor trustworthy. (NIA)
4. MY STORY
It was 2006, I was a 19 year old kid. I lived in a city filled with corruption and I wanted to change
the outcome of those individuals that lived in the city. I thought that the city needed some fresh
blood, in office. So I began my campaign for Mayor. I worked at a local gas station in the city and
knew everyone that lived in the city (small town life) As my campaign heated up and my petition
was full, my dad got a visit from the Mayor and his brother who we called Pinky. Think of Pinky
like the Godfather. Pinky visited my dad twice a year, once to sign an absentee ballot that was
prefilled out and once to check on things make sure he didn’t need anything. So for this visit it
was quite unusual. My dad came to me a bit later on and said I had to end my campaign. He said
the kickbacks he was getting would end if I didn’t do so. My dad owns a bar in the city so these
kickback are important for his business. For my dad to ask me to do something like this, I
couldn’t say no, so I quit my campaign!

16. THE MACHINE
Political Corruption attacks citizens in many different ways. For Nucky Johnson it was a
political machine ran out of fear that got him elected over and over again. For Kwame Kilpatrick
is was the act of secrets that got him elected over and over. While great strides were made in
each city, each city came out on the losing end of the crimes committed. The City of Detroit
lost millions for Kilpatrick’s illegal firing of police officers investigating a murder that is widely
rumored to Kilpatrick and even more in the backroom deals that Kilpatrick worked out with his
friends. For Johnson the city of Atlantic City funded a lifestyle suitable for royalty, this included a
fresh carnation daily for his lapel, a 8 room suite at the Ritz, a limo, and a chauffeur. Atlantic City
did eventually recover, however was in despair for many years after the lift of prohibition. As the
town was built on the fact that they would serve alcohol during the time in which it was illegal to
due so. Detroit, on the other hand has yet to recover and the future only looks dimmer!
17. THE STEPS TO SUCCESS
Spotting Political Corruption
Calling those out that participate in corrupt acts
Collecting signatures to have those in office that participate in corrupt acts
recalled.
Using social media to instigate a social campaign against those individuals.
Contacting Local media to get them involved.
Using all tools at our disposal to make sure those who participate in corrupt acts
are exposed.
18. WILL YOU BE SAFE IF YOU
PARTICIPATE?
Our program uses several tools to keep the participants safe. First
and foremost, everything posted in social media campaigns are
scrambled to keep the name of the disclose private, only your friends
and followers can see your face on your post. Next our
whistleblowing system is completely confidential and if petitioning is
needed our team of petitioners does not have to include the person
who brought up the claim.
19. NEXT CHAPTER
My story is not over. I didn’t give up my fight to help the citizens of
the city I love. I went to Wayne State to study finance and public
affairs. I’m on my way to Law School. I plan on tackling this issue
once again, once I can make sure that no one gets hurt in the process.
By that time I will hope to end the corruption in my city and with the
help of all of you eliminate corruption across America and abroad.
The book is not over we have only turned to a new chapter.
