Minas Gerais is a state in Brazil with a population of over 20 million people and a GDP of US$46.8 billion in 2003 and US$125.3 billion in 2009. It has a diverse economy focused on mining, steel, agriculture including coffee, sugar, and ethanol. Mining industries include iron ore, niobium, pig iron, and manganese where Minas Gerais is the largest producer and exporter in Brazil. The state also has a large IT sector with major technology companies and universities focused on developing IT talent.
