STORY LINES
This afternoon, the Capital University women’s lacrosse team plays host to Hilbert College (N.Y.) in a non-conference game at Bernlohr Stadium. The Crusaders are returning from their
first road trip of the season, one in which they posted a 2-1 record with the season record’s only belmish coming in a 10-8 loss at Thiel (Pa.) back on Mar. 22. Other than the loss in
which the Crusaders came up just short, they managed to handle Waynesburg (12-6) and Franciscan (17-2) in back-to-back road contests. In its most recent game against
Franciscan, sophomore midfielder Kim Hoerauf tallied a game and career-high six goals on a total of nine shots, with an astounding seven of them coming on goal. Freshman
midfielder Korri Titus and classmate in attack Miranda Stellini recorded three goals apiece in the dominating victory. Fellow freshman in goalie Maddie Wilson picked up her sixth win in
goal, saving six of eight shots on the afternoon. With a season sweep of Franciscan in a home-and-home matchup, Capital outscored the Barons a combined 33-5.
Hilbert enters today’s contest having posted a 1-2 record in its last three outings after dropping three straight games to open the season. In their most recent game at
Baldwin Wallace, the Hawks fell behind 15-0 after the opening period, before playing their opposition to an even 4-4 score in the second half. But, to no avail, as
Hilbert was defeated 19-4. The Hawks are led so far this season by freshman attack Megan Smith, who currently leads the team in points (12), goals (11), and is tied
for second in assists (1). Hilbert has seen a shared duty in goal this season, as junior Meghan Stewart and freshman Stephanie Glaza have both seen time in the net.
