On December 30,1984 in Akron, Ohio a 7lb
beast was born. Who knew that this average
sized baby would become the 6’8” 250lb 2-time
NBA champ we know today as …
LeBron James
LeBron Raymone James was born to Gloria Marie James. A 16 year old single
mother. Growing up life was a struggle for LeBron as he moved from apartment to
apartment to worse neighborhoods in Akron as Gloria struggled to find steady
work. Gloria knew he would better off with a more stable environment, so she
allowed him to move in with the family Frank Walker, a local youth football coach,
who introduced him to basketball at the age of nine. As a youth James played
Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball for the Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars.
Led by James and his friends Dru Joyce III, Sian Cotton, and Willie Mcgee they made
themselves inseparable and named themselves the “Fab Four” and promised each
other they would go to the same high school.
In his freshman year at St. Vincent- St. Mary he averaged 21 points and 6
rebounds per game for the Fighting Irish. That year he led the Fighting Irish to
a 27-0 undefeated season and a Division III state title. In his sophomore year,
James averaged 25.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He also averaged 5.8
assists and 3.8 steals. His team had to play at the University of Akron’s 5,492
seat stadium because fans, college scouts, and NBA coaches wanted to see this
legend in the making.
James played wide receiver for St. Vincent-St. Mary’s high
school football team. As a sophomore he was named first
team all-state and as a junior he led the Fighting Irish to the
state semifinals. Unfortunately, his football career came to an
end when he broke his wrist during an AAU basketball
game. Many critics have debated whether he could have
went pro in two sports.
James was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first
pick in the NBA draft. In his first NBA game he recorded 25
points against the Sacramento Kings, setting an NBA record
for the most points scored by a prep-to-pro player in his
debut outing. In a late season match up against the New
Jersey Nets he scored a season high 41 points and he was
eventually named Rookie of the Year.
James is a 2x NBA Champ, 2x NBA Finals
MVP, 4X NBA MVP, 1x NBA Rookie of the
Year, 1x NBA Scoring champ, 2x NBA All-
Star game MVP, And a 10x NBA All-Star.
