3 Share You’re sitting at your computer with that gnawing feeling that it’s high time to produce some gripping and highly valuable content for your blog readers.  Your brain is circulating around a variety of potential topics, but none of them arouse that instant YES! that makes you put hand to keyboard and lose yourself in the creative process. Another 10 minutes go by… and you’re still sitting there.  You start to wonder if you have anything useful to say at all.  You can feel the creative juices within you drying up.  The wayward voices of doubt and second-guessing make their appearance, causing you to step away from your blog with the final thought, ‘I’ll get to it tomorrow .’ Any established (and honest) blogger can very likely relate to this scenario.  This used to be a BIG obstacle for me, as I felt intimidated by all the great content by other bloggers in the I.M. marketplace.  What I realized, however, is that is is quite difficult to pull awesome blog content out of thin air.  It’s very helpful to have a few resources that you can leverage to jump start great blogging ideas.  Here are a few that I use on a regular basis:
3 Resources to Give You Insights Into What to Blog About…
1 ~ Google Trends:  If you’re not currently using  Google Trends , go check it out and see how cool it is.  Google will send you daily updates on your niche that have been posted across the web.  This will not only help you craft good ideas on  what to blog  about; it will show you what’s happening NOW so you can ride the latest trends and blog about cutting edge developments in your market.  Your blog readers will LOVE this, as being the first to provide cutting edge information is one of the best ways to position yourself as an expert.
2 ~ Online Forums:  Forums are one of the most under-utilized resources by bloggers.  They are great for traffic generation (some bloggers use online forums as their main traffic strategy), but they are also very helpful for getting a clear sense of the struggles that your target market is currently facing.  Most people turn to forums to get their problems solved.  If you see a specific problem being brought up over and over, then you’ve just nailed down the topic for your next blog post.  Of course, after you write extensively on the solution to the problems faced by people in online forums, you can then go there and tactfully paraphrase your blog post with a link to the entire post.  As long as you’re genuinely there to help people, you’ll be appreciated for your efforts (as opposed to looking like a spammer just there to throw down your links).  A great place to find online forums in your niche is  Big Boards .

If You Still Aren’t Sure What to Blog About… Here are 3 other quick tips: 1.  Do a Google search on the blogs in your market.  It’s sometimes easy to forget that the whole world of information is literally at your fingertips with Google. 2.  Do a Youtube search on different subjects related to your niche.  Youtube is the second largest search engine on the planet.  You can spend all day getting great ideas on  what to blog about there.   3.  Assess for yourself what you’re struggling with the most in your business and then create blog content around that.  The assumption is that if you’re struggling with a particular issue, other people in your niche are likely experiencing similar challenges.
You Still Don’t Know What to Blog About? Boy, you’re tough.  Maybe just forget about blogging and focus on other ways to get your message out.  Seriously, not everyone is cut out for blogging.  I think the best bloggers can really identify with the ‘teacher’ archetype; they love sharing information and helping people through the dissemination of creative ideas.  If you relate more to the ‘networker’ archetype, then focus less on blogging and instead spend that time on Twitter and Facebook getting to know a ton of new people and making connections.  Then, perhaps you can blog about how to network effectively through social media.
One Last Blogging Idea Generation Tip One of the exercises I have found very helpful is to take about 15 minutes to write down a number of blogging topics that interest me the most.  Then, I’ll actually set up drafts for each idea in my WordPress admin area, so I don’t even have to think about what to write about on a given day.  I try to do this in a very ‘free association’ kind of way, where I just let the ideas pour out without the internal critic weighing in.  The idea is to type for 10-15 minutes straight without allowing my fingers to stop.  What I have noticed is that a lot of my best blogging ideas surface when I give myself permission to just let it rip without any attachment to a perfect outcome.  Once I do this, I can then go back and sift through my ideas to find the ones that feel the most compelling and set them up as rough drafts.
I hope this blog post has given you some useful tips on what to blog about!!
