What kind of media institution
might distribute your media
product and why?
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Worldwide, there are many different media institutions that distributes forms of media such as;
Films, magazine, music, Tv shows etc.
A distributer is often a company or institute that delivers different forms of media to the public. However, a
distributor's job is more complex than just releasing something into the public eye.
In order for something to successfully be distributed to the correct audience, it first must appeal to that audience.
For my magazine ‘Mix’ My main aim is to look at institutions that specialise in magazine media.
Also, the institution that I will choose will have to be successful especially within the British
market as the magazine I am creating is for a national audience, not a worldwide audience.
The three distributors I will closely look at areBAUER, Time Inc. UK and EMAP. Within my
research of these institutions, i will examine the audiences that are targeted by these
companies, and also compare these to the audience of my magazine.
My target audience is a Mixed gender Indie magazine for older
teens to young adults (15-25). Therefore I will
need to decided which institute will be
better to distribute my magazine.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
BAUER
From my research of viewing BAUER media production is a distribution
company, they release magazines that target an audience of young
adults of both the male and female genders. They distribute music
magazines such as; Kerrang and Q. Kerrang is a rock genre magazine
that appeals to both genders with the young adult age as their target
audience. Q is argued to be a pop music magazine that again has a
unisex young adult target audience.
I believe that BAUER media production may be a good distributer for
my magazine ‘Mix’ because they do not distribute a music magazine of
the indie genre. This will therefore increase the popularity and
advance the company by becoming more successful and broadening
their appeal as there isn’t a magazine already like mine. I furthermore
has established that the audience matches the exact target audience
for my magazine which moreover will become more popular as the
magazine is sold directly to the right audience.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
EMAP
During my research of the magazines that are distributed by EMAP, i have
discovered that their target audience is a mixed gender audience, however, the
age range is implicated to focus on an older adult audience. However, this
music magazine doesn’t distribute a music magazine, therefore, but
distributing a music magazine, it may make the company more successful and
have a broader appeal. On the other hand, i believe that EMAP wouldn’t be
great to distribute my magazine as the target audience that is appealed by
EMAP, isn’t the same target audience of my music magazine. Overall, i don’t
think that EMAP would be a right choice for me as the magazine wouldn’t sell
to EMAP’s audience.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Times Inc.
UK
Throughout my research of the distributer Time Inc. Uk, I understood that the
target audience is a unisex older adult audience. They distribute music magazines
such as; Uncut and NME. NME is an alternative music genre, and Uncut is a classic
rock genre. So therefore, my magazine would be successful in bringing in a wider
audience as there isn’t a magazine that is distributed with the indie genre.
However, even though an indie genre magazine would bring a broader appeal to the
Times Inc. uk company, they have a different target audience than my music
magazine. Therefore, even though the genre of my magazine would be successful
for Times Inc. Uk, my magazine would not sell as well due to the target audience of
the company being different.
Overall, i believe that BAUER media production would be
the best media institute to distribute my magazine ‘Mix’. I
think this because BAUER have already distributed well
known music magazines such as Kerrang and Q. These
magazines are popular nationwide, therefore nationally it
is very popular and successful, which would be great for
my magazine. Furthermore, the audience of BAUER
media production also matches the exact target audience
for my magazine. This would impact my magazine greatly
as it would be released to the correct audience and have
a larger purchase rate. Moreover, the company BAUER
will also be positively affected by distributing my
magazine as it would make give it a broader appeal, but
it may also draw in a more people due to the added
genre of magazine.
Therefore i have chosen BAUER media production to be
ideal in distributing my magazine.

Evaluation question 3

  • 1. Evaluation Question 3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
  • 2. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? Worldwide, there are many different media institutions that distributes forms of media such as; Films, magazine, music, Tv shows etc. A distributer is often a company or institute that delivers different forms of media to the public. However, a distributor's job is more complex than just releasing something into the public eye. My target audience is a Mixed gender Indie magazine for older teens to young adults (15-25). Therefore I will need to decided which institute will be better to distribute my magazine.

BAUER From my research of viewing BAUER media production is a distribution company, they release magazines that target an audience of young adults of both the male and female genders.
