Case Study
She is Mrs.Mahalakshmi w/o Mr.Christuraj
from Meenthulli village, where SIVA Trust
is implementing various activities. She is only 20
years old and got a baby. She hails from a very
poor farmer’s family. When she was studying 8th
Standard, her father Vellaichamy died out of
sickness. Her widow mother had to rear her and
her elder sister and elder brother. Due to
poverty condition, she had to discontinue
studies at the age of 14 and go for job in a local
match factory, to support her family. After
2 years of work there, her mother arranged for
marriage to her at an early age of 16 and she delivered a baby next
year. However, being young, her eagerness to study further did not
diminish, despite her continued employment in the match factory.
When SIVA Trust started the NFE centre in the village, she convinced her
husband and joined the same in March 2010. She attended classes after her work
shift schedule and took care of the small child also. She appeared for
the 10th Standard public examination in March 2011 and cleared all
subjects with 60% marks. She wants to write 12th Standard exam also
soon and thereafter go for teacher training and later work as a teacher
for the rural students like her, who lose opportunity for study due to various
reasons. She expresses immense thanks to SIVA Trust and TdH-NL
for giving this opportunity for this welcome change in her life.
2. Case Study
He is Mr.Inbaraj, aged 18 years, of
Vannikonendal village, where also SIVA Trust
is engaged in many programmes. He hails from
a very poor family. His father Kasipandi died of
Asthma last year, as a result
of which he could not fare well in the 10th
Standard public exam. Both his brother Karthik and
sister Kala iselvi did not go to school at all
and are now doing cooli work in local village and distant
Tiruppur
respectively. His parents wanted Inbaraj alone to study well in
the family, but he failed in Science and Social Studies subject, due to the
sudden demise of his father.
After SIVA Trust started NFE centre in his village, the Trust staff
located him and motivated to study further. He went to the centre
regularly and cleared both the failed subjects. He got admission in the local
Government Higher Secondary school this year in 11th Standard
(Commerce group) and studying well. He is thankful to SIVA Trust
and TdH-NL for giving him encouragement to continue studies and that has
paved a better future for him.
