Approximate Length of Unit (days, weeks)
Five Weeks
Week one: Students will be given assignment and told how to log into blog site
Week two: students record food intake for day, place on blog and give suggestions of
better choices in future
Week three: We will discuss student’s current fitness assessments from class and we will
determine one short term fitness goal. Student will then put their fitness goal on their
blog
Week four: We will determine a long term fitness goal for each student
Week five: Students will brainstorm healthful meals and create a one day plan for
healthy eating on their blog

Goals:
Students will assess their current food intake and bring attention to increasing healthful
eating habits, they will also look at their current fitness levels and determine short term
goals and long term goals to increase fitness levels
Objectives:
Each student will be responsible for input on their blog site
Students will learn about their current health and how to improve it
Students will learn to express their ideas, and goals to the group
Unit Summary and Sequence of Events – give details:
Week one: Students will be given handout information which include description of the
project, grading rubric, deadlines, detailed instructions of how to log into blog site, and
expected student participation
Week two: Students will write down food intake for one day they will then write
information on blog site then critically analyze better choices and write alternative

Technology Training with Steve Gibbs

Week three: I will go over with students individually their current fitness levels in five
key areas: sit and reach test, sit ups, pushups, trunk lift, and pacer test. We will then
write down on their fitness card one short term goal based on the area they are most
interested in improving in the next week and how we can make that goal a reality. The
students will then go home and add their new goal to their blog and give a suggestion of
how they may obtain that goal. The students will be encouraged to make comments on
other student’s blogs in the class, give suggestions and encouragement.
Week Four: I will revisit student’s fitness cards with them individually; we will now
discuss a long term goal based on current fitness standards in the five key areas we
discussed earlier. We will come up with a long term goal for the student to obtain by the
end of the term. The student will then enter their long term goal on their blog site and
give at least one way they plan on achieving that goal.
Week five: We will discuss healthful eating, the food pyramid, and healthy snacking. I
will ask each student to devise a one day eating plan that is healthy and well balanced and
place it on their blog site.

Software and Hardware needed:
Computer, internet service (explorer, foxfire)

Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction
Resource Student: During physical education class I will allow students without
computer accessibility and students with limited understanding of
the concepts accessibility to work together on my computer.
Gifted Student: Gifted students could compute the daily intake of calories for
themselves, as well as compute the healthier choice daily caloric
                  intake
