Some Friendly Suggestions… Be flexible Use your best judgment Bring a box fan Bring some basic supplies with you Secure your personal materials
Summer of Reading Program… The program begins:  June 22nd Track E Schools – 5 Weeks  June 22 nd  – July 21 st Traditional Track Schools – 6 Weeks June 22 nd  – July 28th
Summer of Reading Program… 5 day work week – Monday - Friday June 22 nd  through July 8 th 4 day work week – Monday – Thursday July 11th through July 28th
Your Day At A Glimpse… 8:30am to 9:00am  Read Aloud With All Students 9:00am to 9:30am  Work with Parents or Shelve Books 9:30am to 10:30am  Kdg. class 10:30am to 11:30am  1 st  grade class  11:30am to 12:30pm  2 nd  grade class 12:30pm to 1:00pm  student lunch Monday’s –  1:00pm to 2:15pm – CIM Entry/Meet    with Kdg., 1 st  and 2 nd  grade teachers (teacher team) Wednesday’s – 1:30pm to 3:30pm – Meet with other schools    within the area (10 schools)  Approximately 40 people will attend
-  Encourage your students to read 25 books during the summer! - Enter all data into CIM and collect data for CPL   10 books –  read with the librarian   10 books –  read at home   5 books –  read aloud to someone in the    library (reading buddy) Your responsibilities…
-  Students with good attendance each week will receive a free paperback book from Scholastic Books.  (possible 6 free books can be earned!) - Use your best judgement when deciding how to distribute remaining paperback books from the program. Your responsibilities…
Chicago Public Library’s Summer Reading Program
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and create an engaging activity/lesson that focuses around the CPL theme of “Book Beats” - The class periods are intended to be collaborative efforts between librarian and classroom teacher.  There are no prep periods during this program. Your responsibilities…

Summer Reading Program Encourages Kids to Read 25 Books

  • 7. Summer of Reading Program… The program begins: June 22nd Track E Schools – 5 Weeks June 22 nd – July 21 st Traditional Track Schools – 6 Weeks June 22 nd – July 28th
  • 8. Summer of Reading Program… 5 day work week – Monday - Friday June 22 nd through July 8 th 4 day work week – Monday – Thursday July 11th through July 28th
  • 9. Your Day At A Glimpse… 8:30am to 9:00am Read Aloud With All Students 9:00am to 9:30am Work with Parents or Shelve Books 9:30am to 10:30am Kdg. class 10:30am to 11:30am 1 st grade class 11:30am to 12:30pm 2 nd grade class 12:30pm to 1:00pm student lunch Monday’s – 1:00pm to 2:15pm – CIM Entry/Meet with Kdg., 1 st and 2 nd grade teachers (teacher team) Wednesday’s – 1:30pm to 3:30pm – Meet with other schools within the area (10 schools) Approximately 40 people will attend
  • 10. - Encourage your students to read 25 books during the summer! - Enter all data into CIM and collect data for CPL 10 books – read with the librarian 10 books – read at home 5 books – read aloud to someone in the library (reading buddy) Your responsibilities…
  • 11. - Students with good attendance each week will receive a free paperback book from Scholastic Books. (possible 6 free books can be earned!) - Use your best judgement when deciding how to distribute remaining paperback books from the program. Your responsibilities…

  • 13. - Collaborate with classroom teachers and create an engaging activity/lesson that focuses around the CPL theme of “Book Beats” - The class periods are intended to be collaborative efforts between librarian and classroom teacher.
