  1. 1. Student Rights and Responsibilities The Student Rights and Responsibilities Bulletin is edited and published on an annual basis. This publication includes rules and regulations designed to protect the rights of students who attend Amarillo College. The current edition of this bulletin is available at the following location: http://catalog.actx.edu/content.php?catoid=8&navoid=329 Paper copies of this publication are also available upon request at any Assistance Center counter. Questions regarding student policies should be directed to Robert Austin,Vice President of Student Affairs, at 371-5024 or rcaustin@actx.edu.
  2. 2. Student Rights and Responsibilities The following important topics are addressed in the Student Rights and Responsibilities document: ◦ Student Academic Grievance Policy ◦ Privacy of Student Records (FERPA) ◦ Student Code of Conduct

Student Rights and Responsibilities Academic Grievances A student who has a grievance concerning an academic course in which he or she is enrolled should be directed to appeal in the following order: 1.Instructor 2.Department Chair/Program Director 3.Division Chair 4.Vice President/Dean of Instruction 5.College President

Student Rights and Responsibilities Privacy of Student Records (FERPA) All student records are protected by Federal Law (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and may not be released to a third party (including parents and law enforcement officers) without express written consent from the student. Questions should be directed to Diane Brice, AC Registrar, at 371-5028.

Student Rights and Responsibilities Student Conduct A Student Behavior Alert Form is available on the AC website and may be used anytime a faculty member has a concern regarding a student's behavior. This web-form may be used for simple documentation of a concern or as a request for action. Once completed, the form submits directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs. The Behavior Alert Form can be found in the "Forms and Policies" section of the Amarillo College website.
  6. 6. Student Rights and Responsibilities Student Conduct Continued Amarillo College expects a high standard of conduct from its students. Students are expected to comply with the law, respect proper constitutional authority, and obey College policies, rules and regulations. Unacceptable conduct is defined as an action or behavior that is contrary to the best interest of a fellow student or students, the faculty or staff, the College, or the teaching/learning process. Students failing to perform according to established standards may be subject to disciplinary action. Policies, standards, rules and regulations apply to students attending College activities whether the activity takes place on or off campus.
