Teachers Teaching Teachers: Perhaps we
  need a new title

• Three examples: Charlie Kouns’
  Listening Sessions, Sculptor Ed Martinez,
  and 17-year-old author, Nikhil Goyal
David Loitz (along with Charlie Kouns, pictured)
  introduces Jay, a high school student from Cleveland
  who has worked with them in listening sessions they
  conduct with students to change education. 6.13.12
Jay, high school student from Cleveland, says, “Think like
   you’re a kid. Act like you’re an adult.” 6.13.12
Nikhil Goyal, 17-year-old student says that we should
   treat students like they are adults… professionals.
   6.13.12
Nikhil argues that a “shift” will come when we start
   treating students as “the scientists, the artists, the
   professors.” 6.13.12
McKenzie Amara (who has worked with Charlie and
  David in listening circles) is a first-year student at
  NYU. She says that children are evolutionarily more
  advanced… emotionally, physically, intellectually,
  spiritually… 6.12.13
Sculptor, Ed Martinez explains how students could have
  real input into what is “essentially my artistic
  project…” 9.19.12
Eighth-grader, Kelsey (sitting with her father) questions
   the writing she does in school.
Sculptor, Ed Martinez wants to give students “enough
  material that lights them up… that they are motivated
  to communicate and motivated to write.” 9.17.12
Sculptor, Ed Martinez: They can’t fail… We’ve set them
  up for success. 9.19.12
Kelsey reminds us that, “failure, when it’s an option, it
   makes it more interesting.” 9.17.12
Michelle and Evelyn (Seniors) ask Nikhil Goyal: Why do
  you think the government is telling teachers to teach

Nikhil answers Evelyn: It’s all this kind of medicine from

  • 26. McKenzie Amara (who has worked with Charlie and David in listening circles) is a first-year student at NYU. She says that children are evolutionarily more advanced… emotionally, physically, intellectually, spiritually… 6.12.13
  • 27. Sculptor, Ed Martinez explains how students could have real input into what is “essentially my artistic project…” 9.19.12
  • 28. Eighth-grader, Kelsey (sitting with her father) questions the writing she does in school.
  • 29. Sculptor, Ed Martinez wants to give students “enough material that lights them up… that they are motivated to communicate and motivated to write.” 9.17.12
