Kalaripayattu Mother Of All Martial Art Forms

  • Bodhidharma was born into a Pallava King Sugandan's Family as their third child, belonging to Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, (South) India. As he belonged to a Royal Family of the Kings, he was brought up from a very small age with very great exposure to all Tamil Martial Arts available during that period of time, namely, SILAMBAM which mainly consists of Stick Silambam (Most Commonly only the use of Stick was referred to as Silambam), Sword Silambam, Fire Slambam, Throw Silambam and Hand Silambam (also called as Kuttu {Kuthu} Varisai) which consists of animal forms namely, Snake, Tiger, Elephant, Eagle, Crane etc. The other Tamil Martial Arts that were widely used during those days are Varma Kalai (used for Healing Purpose as well as a Martial Art to KILL others), which is divided into Nokku Varma, Choondu (Sundu) Varma, Oodhu Varma and Meitheenda Kalai (quite close to Nokku Varma); Mal - Yutham and Adi Thadi (ADi THAdu piDI). Bodhidharma taught these arts to the Chinese which come under the term "Kung Fu". Kung Fu uses animal styles like Snake, Tiger, Elephant, Eagle, Crane etc. The Varma Kalai (Pressure Point Healing Art of the Tamils) is VERY CLOSE to Tai Chi of China; Varma Kalai (Pressure Point Attacks of Martial Art) is VERY SIMILAR to Dim Mak of the Chinese. Mal-Yutham, the Art of Grappling is Similar to Wrestling and Boxing Arts. Adi Thadi is VERY SIMILAR to present day Kick-Boxing. Generally Varma Klai and Kuthu Varisai ARE TAUGHT TO GATHER AS ONE SUBJECT in Tamil Nadu. The Art of Kuthu Varisai is VERY SIMILAR to present day "Karate" and "Kung Fu" All these arts were in existence before the 2nd Century B.C.; as the reference of these arts are referred to in Silappadigaram which was discovered in 2nd Century B.C.. Since Bodhidharma was born into the family of Kings, it was then necessary for all those of the King’s house to learn these arts of self-defense. Bodhidharma, who lived in Kanchipuram, where these arts were in popular use, was naturally exposed to these arts, and wanted to share them with the Eastern World, and to Introduce to the Eastern World the Healing Arts that were also involved in these arts. The Present Day Acupuncture and Acupressure were taught as a result of his knowledge in Varma Kalai, which uses pressure point healing system. Thus, Bodhidharma moved to the Eastern World to promote these arts there. One more important thing. BODHIDHARMA WAS FROM TAMILAGAM, WHEN THERE WAS NO KERALA, NO MALAYALAM, NO KALARIPAYTTU. Researchers like Phillip Zarilli have PROVED that the MOST OLDEST PRACTICE COULD BE NO OLDER THAN 11TH CENTURY A.D. The Northern Ballads discovered during the late-16th Century AD gives information of Kalari that would date back to 15th or 14th Century AD only. BUT, due to the cultish Kalari Gurukkals, it is said Kalaripayattu would have been formed during the 11th Century AD, when even the Malayalam Language was formed. There were many other Martial Arts even in India before Kalaripayattu. Varma Kalai which was given by Sage Agasthiyar is THE OLDEST MARTIAL ART ALIVE. Without the incorporation of Varma Kalai in Kalaripayattu, Kalaripayattu is a BULLSHIT…!!! NO USE OF LEARNING KALARIPAYATTU WITHOUT THE VARMA KALI COMPONENT. BODHIDHARMA NEVER LEARNT KALARIPAYATTU…!!! During the early-19th Century AD, Kalaripayattu was becoming a dying Martial Art. In order to revive this, the Kalari Gurukkals of those days, STARTED TO TEACH AND ADVERTISE KALARIPAYATTU AS THE “MOTHER OF ALL MARTIAL ARTS AND THE DEADLIEST MARTIAL ART”. Thus, Kalaripayattu gained popularity among the foreigners. The Fighting Techniques of Kalaripayattu does not really work in a true combat, excepting that of Thekkan Kalari, which was derived from Tamil Martial Arts. Please learn and study the History of Bodhidharma and Martial Arts. During the Life Time of Bodhidharma, KERALA NEVER EXISTED, KALARIPAYATTU NEVER EXISTED AND MALAYALAM LANGUAGE WAS NOT EVEN BORN.

  1. 1. Kalaripayattu Mother Of All Martial Art Forms
  2. 2. Kalaripayattu - The Orient's treasure trove, a gift to the modern world and the mother of all martial arts. Legend traces the 3000- year-old art form to Sage Parasurama- the master of all martial art forms and credited to be the re-claimer of Kerala from the Arabian Sea. Kalaripayattu originated in ancient South India. Kung- fu, popularized by the monks of the Shoaling Temple traces its ancestry to Bodhi Dharma - an Indian Buddhist monk and Kalaripayattu master. Kalaripayattu - Mother Of All Martial Art Forms Crafted in ancient South India drawing inspiration from the raw power and sinuous strength of the majestic animal forms - Lion, Tiger, Elephant, Wild Boar, Snake, and Crocodile ........ Kalaripayattu laid down the combat code of the Cholas, the Cheras and the Pandyas. Shrouded in deep mystery and mists of secrecy Kalaripayattu was taught by the masters in total isolation, away from prying eyes.
