  • WHEN YOU BECOME A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST GOD GIVES YOU GIFTSSTUFF = CLUTTERS AND GETS IN THE WAY vs. GIFTS = DISCOVER AND GET USED YOU NEED TO (1) DISCOVER THEM, (2) USE THEM, AND (3) KEEP THEM HOT = fan into flame WHEN we DON’T use GOD’S GIFTS for what they are meant for we can lose them or they can get “bent” Also WHEN we try to get gifts that we haven’t been given and that other people have we can RUIN the good things we have been given.  WHY DOES GOD GIVE US GIFTS? And I think JESUS is going to pull on my heart open a drawer and reach in and pull some things out…and I won’t recognize them. And what do we say when we don’t recognize stuff? WHAT IS THAT?  WHAT GIFTS DID THE GOOD SAMARITAN HAVE? &lt;GIVING, MERCY, ORGANIZING, &gt;THE SAMARITAN KEPT HIS GIFTS &lt;IN HIS HEART&gt;When you invite GOD’S SPIRIT is in, you invite him into your heart, Your heart is where he transforms you by his grace to become more like Jesus. HAVE YOU ASKED JESUS INTO YOUR HEART?When we level up with God in our HEARTS God’s love fills us so much that when we look at others we see them the way HE sees them and we LOVINGLY RESPOND to people.

  • FIVE PEOPLE OVERCOMERS WILL WANT TO MEET IN HEAVEN &lt;I’ll explain ‘overcomers’ in a minute&gt;YOUR MENTEE = A “Timothy”—you want to know that someone is going to be in heaven because of YOU! If they DIE knowing JESUS CHRIST as his or her savior or when Jesus returns to GET THEM you want to be able to give them a REALLY HIGH FIVE IN THE AIR as you go to meet the Lord! And every day until they die, you are going to make sure they have everything they need to make it through this world and into the next. AND you are going to help them know how to take as many people with them as THEY can too! WHY? Because you know what it is like to have been given the things YOU needed when you needed because you had a mentor too--and if you can be that for someone else then may GOD GET ALL THE GLORY FOR IT! I’ll cast down THAT crown GLADLY at His feet one day! I’ll gladly cast down the crowns given to me for each person who belongs to Christ because of my life--because my life was forfeit before I came to know JESUS but since I have come to know Him I have everything! YOU NEED A “TIMOTHY”—someone younger in the Lord whom you can MENTORActs 16:1-3 (NIV), He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek. The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. Paul wanted to take him along on the journey…Who is it going to be? You need a plan: Take a moment and write down either some names you can of younger “Timothys” or places you could be involved in ministry where you could find one—like children’s church, or Sunday school or weekday bible studies, or VBS. YOU NEED A PLAN!YOUR MENTOR:: To know how to have a mentee you are going to need a good mentor—a mentor who has CHRIST ON! A “Mentor” is an older Christian who is close to you. A “BARNABAS”When the Legendary Odessyeus went on his voyage he left his son with someone special—since he wasn’t going to be home for several seasons, he needed someone he could trust to take his place and train his son in the things he needed to know—in the skills necessary for education, family, courage and life. The man’s name was “Mentor”.We all need someone who can disciple us; someone who can pass along the faith to us and who can train us besides our parents in what is right, and good, and holy.Barnabas: Acts 9:26-28, When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to meet with the believers, but they were all afraid of him. They did not believe he had truly become a believer! Then Barnabas brought him to the apostles and told them how Saul had seen the Lord on the way to Damascus and how the Lord had spoken to Saul. He also told them that Saul had preached boldly in the name of Jesus in Damascus. So Saul stayed with the apostles… (NLT)Proverbs 5:11-14 (HCSV) says, “At the end of your life, you will lament when your physical body has been consumed, and you will say, “How I hated discipline, and how my heart despised correction. I didn’t obey my teachers or listen closely to my mentors. I am on the verge of complete ruin before the entire community.”YOU NEED A PLAN: Who are you going to ask to be your mentor? Write down some names of people in your life who you believe you could talk to about the life, the faith, issues you might be have whom you could trust give you straight and godly answers. But also someone who will protect you and believes in you. They are NOT your friend like an equal with you; they are an older person who gives you guidance.YOUR HERO:: You need a protégé SOMEONE you want to be like! A PROTÉGÉ = A Christian Hero–Someone who is allowing God be the hero in their life’s story so much that they are a hero in your eyes twice! –you not only want to be like her/him, you want more of GOD! They are somebody that if they walked into a room you would gasp and hold your breath because they seem untouchable to you and mysterious and VERY holy! His or her faith in God is evident! They are legends, they have fought many faith battles and they are one COOL Christian! They inspire YOU! You need A “PAUL”. Acts 16:1fPaul and Silas were in prison for preaching the Gospel; they were in chains and in a cell after they had been beaten. They began to sing the songs of faith and all of a sudden they prison shook, the lights went out, their chains fell off and the door swung open. The jailer was about to kill himself but Paul yelled for him not to because they were all still there. The jailer ends up getting saved, Paul is invited over to his house for a meal, the jailers whole family gets saved and are baptized! The next morning the leaders of the city send their peons over to the jail to tell Paul and Silas they could go, Paul gets bold and tells them that they have beaten without a trail ROMAN CITIZENS and they expect us to us leave quietly? The peons go back and told them Paul was a Roman citizen and they got very scared! And TIMOTHY is there watching all of this happen! PAUL IS LEGEND a HERO in the faith! Your hero doesn’t have to be a living person: Many heroes are wonderful men and women of God who are buried but with the Lord. I have read Oswald Chambers and would call him one of my heroes! WHO IS ONE OF YOUR HEROES ADULTS?A FAMILY MEMBER:: You need a group/family! A group will provide Positive peer-pressure and a place to Belong. CHEERS: There was this show on TV for years with the theme song that said, “Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.” The show was called, “CHEERS” and everyone always said, “NORM!” when he walked in. God has given you the church as your new family—it isn’t perfect but it is a place where people know each other and where your name is known and where you know other people’s names. You need to know that at least ONE family member from your church is going to be there! When we would lay hide and seek we would establish a base, some place you could run to and be “safe” so you didn’t get “it”. A CHURCH FAMILY is a BASE:: A PLACE TO CALL “BASE” and where you are SAFE. And the people there need to have your back!Ephesians 3:14, I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.What is your plan? Do you have a church family? Do you have a youth group who love God and seek to live by faith where you can be a family? Be strengthened, loved on, find power to live, prayers to support you, know God deeper and be filled to the brim inside with all things good? YOU NEED TO HAVE A PLAN! You need to find a good church familyYOUR SAVIOR:: You need Jesus. There is no other name under given to us by which we can be saved than the name of JesusJohn 3:16-17, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.Romans 10:9, if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.WHAT IS YOUR PLAN? They are legends, they have fought many faith battles and they are one COOL Christian! They inspire YOU! You need A “PAUL”. Acts 16:1fPaul and Silas were in prison for preaching the Gospel; they were in chains and in a cell after they had been beaten. They began to sing the songs of faith and all of a sudden they prison shook, the lights went out, their chains fell off and the door swung open. The jailer was about to kill himself but Paul yelled for him not to because they were all still there. The jailer ends up getting saved, Paul is invited over to his house for a meal, the jailers whole family gets saved and are baptized! The next morning the leaders of the city send their peons over to the jail to tell Paul and Silas they could go, Paul gets bold and tells them that they have beaten without a trail ROMAN CITIZENS and they expect us to us leave quietly? The peons go back and told them Paul was a Roman citizen and they got very scared! And TIMOTHY is there watching all of this happen! PAUL IS LEGEND a HERO in the faith! Your hero doesn’t have to be a living person: Many heroes are wonderful men and women of God who are buried but with the Lord. I have read Oswald Chambers and would call him one of my heroes! WHO IS ONE OF YOUR HEROES ADULTS?A FAMILY MEMBER:: You need a group/family! A group will provide Positive peer-pressure and a place to Belong. CHEERS: There was this show on TV for years with the theme song that said, “Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.” The show was called, “CHEERS” and everyone always said, “NORM!” when he walked in. God has given you the church as your new family—it isn’t perfect but it is a place where people know each other and where your name is known and where you know other people’s names. You need to know that at least ONE family member from your church is going to be there! When we would lay hide and seek we would establish a base, some place you could run to and be “safe” so you didn’t get “it”. A CHURCH FAMILY is a BASE:: A PLACE TO CALL “BASE” and where you are SAFE. These people have been called “leeches” because all they do is “suck” on the resources of the other. [YOUTH GROUP/CHURCH is seen as an easy place to get food, to hook up with friends, to have some power or control and start drama, to play free games or free trips, you never show up at fundraisers but only for whatever conveniences you’ve gained.] AND WHEN IT COMES TO JESUS you just really don’t care. When it all boils down to what the relationship means, you are just like the ones who got up from Jesus because of a misunderstanding and walked away. Many of those people followed Jesus because they were at the feeding of the 5,000 and were merely looking for what they could get for free, but once they learned it was going to cost them something they bolted, they literally DROPPED OFF THE VINE!This is not uncommon: HOW MANY OF YOU KNOW SOME LEECHES? [YOUTH GROUP/CHURCH = your attendance has grown steadily to every week, you are actively involved and helping in many ways, you are paying your share with hard work and sweat at fundraisers and in the ministry opportunities your leaders provide. You don’t call another youth group or church “yours” but this ONE, and when you don’t go to youth group or church because you are sick or on vacation you really, really miss everyone and you can probably see all of their faces and call every one of them by name. You’ve BONDED with those people and you would happily say, “Yes, I am committed to them and I KNOW they are to me.”] WHEN IT COMES TO JESUS… well, let’s try something:: CLOSE YOUR EYES AND USING YOUR IMAGINATIONI want you to imagine going to your favorite restaurant you like to a snack and a drink at and you do that and go to the back corner bypassing a few people and sit down at a two person table. You know its Jesus but you are unsure as to what to say. You try to strike up a conversation but it goes nowhere and before you have a chance to open your mouth again Jesus looks you in the eye and says, “It’s time to define the relationship.” He asks you a couple more questions like how do you feel about Him and would you say you are just casual with him or have you moved past that? How would YOU define your relationship with Him? What exactly is your level of commitment?
