Wind energy is generated from the kinetic energy of wind. Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy of wind into electrical energy. There are two main types of wind turbines: horizontal-axis turbines which have three blades and stand around 20 stories tall, and vertical-axis turbines which resemble an eggbeater and stand around 100 feet tall. Wind turbines are often located in windy areas like hilltops, plains, and shorelines, and are grouped together in wind farms to generate electricity from wind power.
