With the advent of newer and effective drugs for peptic ulcer there has been a significant decline in the incidence of surgical complications of peptic ulcer. The need for surgical intervention is limited mostly to emergency situations like perforations. Surgery for chronic peptic ulcer is hardly performed in urban centers. However in the rural setting the need to perform surgical operations for peptic ulcer still continues. The article provides a brief review of the surgical options available for duodenal ulcer.
