Hard to SETUP a) Takes great skill + effort to find/understand/use successfully b) Tools (twitter, blogger, facebook, flickr, second life, etc not designed for education
Logistics Tough Students HATE having to learn multiple tools for  one  class It's a lot of work for teachers to manage
Often Confusing Tools aren't designed for educational use. So teachers/students have to work around assumptions of the tool.
No Consistency Across tools, classes, majors. Each class using social media is one-off experiment. This can't scale.
State of social learning in 2010?  
Very few people using it  
Arguing for centralized social learning platform

  • 5. Hard to SETUP a) Takes great skill + effort to find/understand/use successfully b) Tools (twitter, blogger, facebook, flickr, second life, etc not designed for education
  • 6. Logistics Tough Students HATE having to learn multiple tools for one class It's a lot of work for teachers to manage
  • 7. Often Confusing Tools aren't designed for educational use. So teachers/students have to work around assumptions of the tool.
  • 8. No Consistency Across tools, classes, majors. Each class using social media is one-off experiment. This can't scale.
  • 9. State of social learning in 2010?  
  • 10. Very few people using it  
  • 11. Arguing for centralized social learning platform  
  • 12. Eduglu in other words :)  
  • 14. Tool Glue Gluing together l egacy LMS systems, SIS, gradebooks, and 3rd-party learning tools such as Google Docs, wikis, blogs, micro-blogging platforms such as Twitter, and so on.
