3. Implementation and
Strategic Results
Example One…
Over 75% of all organizations going through a strategic
planning process never use or follow up on the results of
their process. After the completion of the Collegiate
Strategic Plan, implementation was monitored for results
through the Program Planning Approval process, an internal
Enterprise Resource Management portal that tracked
compliance, budget, and marketing approaches. A project
management tool (Basecamp) was implemented to
increase transparency, engagement, and accountability.
Results: Adoption of this process increased an average
35% per year which allowed for streamlined production of
program promotion, customer responsiveness and audit
readiness.

Funding stakeholders value the ability to build relationships and give
guidance to their institutional partners. Under this mission, the conference
attracted a record 600 participants from all land grant institutions
(1862/1890/1994) to receive information and training in various tracks such
as marketing and communications, finance, reporting and accountability, and
human resources.
Results: The Texas Committee conference increased operational efficiency
and influenced the policy decision-making of hundreds of land grant
universities across the nation.

Results: Developing new leaders in the marketing and communications
profession is one of my core values. Membership in the national Association
for Communications Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life
and Human Sciences makes that objective possible. As a result, my
department has 100% membership and has assumed the Chair position
in four of the association’s learning communities over the last 3 years;
marketing, graphic design, writing and web. In 2016 and 2017, my
department received 3 awards (2 Gold Level and 1 Bronze) from their
peers. As of 2019, I was invited by the Board as a Presidential Nominee
to lead this prestigious organization which over the last 100 years has only
had one other representative from an HBCU land grant institution.

7. Multi-Level Institutional
Collaboration

I collaborated with LaRachelle for four years in our federal and academic
organizations. Both our positions depended greatly on communicating the
successes and outcomes of federal and state food and agricultural research
grants. Communications were directed to a variety of audiences such as
Congress, state and local government officials, communities, academia,
business and industry, think tanks and foundations, and non-profit
organizations. What a huge task! LaRachelle impressed me immediately as a
leader in her realm at Prairie View A&M University. During our four years
together, I watched her take the initiative numerous times to lead nearly 20
universities in the creation and implementation of several successful strategic
long and short-term communication campaigns. These campaigns resulted in
the leveraging of limited university resources, helped academic leadership
better understand and appreciate the importance of communication, and
strengthened the relationship among the communication staffs at 19
universities. LaRachelle's excelled in these complex and difficult endeavors due
to her calm leadership, patient mentoring of junior communication specialists,
and superb communication acumen with remotely-based colleagues. Without a
doubt LaRachelle is one of the most professional communication experts with
whom I have worked. She is a consensus builder, a strategic thinker, and a
communication visionary. She would be a much-needed addition to any
executive team. It was my pleasure to work with her, and I would do so again in
a heartbeat.
