John 3:1-5. A New Life In Christ. In the new life we have been born again. In the new life we are a new creation. In the new life we crucify the flesh with its passions and desires. In the new life we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. In the new life we are renewed by the Holy Spirit. In the new life we are dead to sin but alive to God. In the new life we are washed from our sins. in the new life we put to death the old man and put on the new man. In the new life we died and our life is hidden with Christ in God. In the new life we were brought back from death in sin.
2. John 3:1-5 There was a man of the Pharisees
named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This
man came to Jesus by night and said to Him,
"Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come
from God; for no one can do these signs that
You do unless God is with him." 3 Jesus
answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I
say to you, unless one is born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God."
4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be
born when he is old? Can he enter a second
time into his mother's womb and be born?"
5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to
you, unless one is born of water and the
Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
3. A NEW LIFE
A.John says we must be born again,
born of water and the Spirit if we want
to enter the kingdom of God.
B.That new birth is really a new life in
Christ.
C.The scriptures talk a lot about that new
life.
4. IN THE NEW LIFE WE HAVE
BEEN BORN AGAIN
1 Peter 1:22-25 Since you have purified your
souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in
sincere love of the brethren, love one another
fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born
again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible,
through the word of God which lives and abides
forever, 24 because "All flesh is as grass, And
all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers, And its flower falls away,
25 But the word of the LORD endures forever."
Now this is the word which by the gospel was
preached to you.
5. IN THE NEW LIFE WE ARE A
NEW CREATION
A.2 Corinthians 5:14-17 For the love of Christ compels
us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then
all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live
should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who
died for them and rose again. 16 Therefore, from now
on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even
though we have known Christ according to the flesh,
yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things
have passed away; behold, all things have become
new.
B.Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither
circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a
new creation.
6. IN THE NEW LIFE WE CRUCIFY THE FLESH
WITH ITS PASSIONS AND DESIRES
Galatians 5:16-26 I say then: Walk in the Spirit,
and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the
Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary
to one another, so that you do not do the things
that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit,
you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of
the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry,
sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies,
outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions,
dissensions, heresies, >>>
7. IN THE NEW LIFE WE CRUCIFY THE FLESH
WITH ITS PASSIONS AND DESIRES
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and
the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I
also told you in time past, that those who
practice such things will not inherit the
kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-
control. Against such there is no law. 24 And
those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh
with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the
Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not
become conceited, provoking one another,
envying one another.
8. IN THE NEW LIFE WE ARE TRANSFORMED
BY RENEWING OUR MIND
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore,
brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable to God, which is your
reasonable service. 2 And do not be
conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that you may prove what is that good and
acceptable and perfect will of God.
9. IN THE NEW LIFE WE ARE
RENEWED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
Titus 3:1-5 Remind them to be subject to rulers
and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every
good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to be
peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all
men. 3 For we ourselves were also once
foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various
lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy,
hateful and hating one another. 4 But when the
kindness and the love of God our Savior toward
man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness
which we have done, but according to His
mercy He saved us, through the washing of
regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
10. IN THE NEW LIFE WE ARE DEAD
TO SIN BUT ALIVE TO GOD
Romans 6:1-23 What shall we say then? Shall we
continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly
not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in
it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were
baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His
death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him
through baptism into death, that just as Christ was
raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,
even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5
For if we have been united together in the likeness
of His death, certainly we also shall be in the
likeness of His resurrection, >>>
11. IN THE NEW LIFE WE ARE DEAD
TO SIN BUT ALIVE TO GOD
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with
Him, that the body of sin might be done away with,
that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he
who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we
died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live
with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised
from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has
dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He
died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He
lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves
to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ
Jesus our Lord. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in
your mortal body, that you should obey it in its
lusts.>>>
12. IN THE NEW LIFE WE ARE DEAD
TO SIN BUT ALIVE TO GOD
13 And do not present your members as instruments of
unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God
as being alive from the dead, and your members as
instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall
not have dominion over you, for you are not under law
but under grace. 15 What then? Shall we sin because we
are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do
you not know that to whom you present yourselves
slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you
obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience
leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that
though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
18 And having been set free from sin, you became
slaves of righteousness. >>>
13. IN THE NEW LIFE WE ARE DEAD
TO SIN BUT ALIVE TO GOD
19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness
of your flesh. For just as you presented your
members as slaves of uncleanness, and of
lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now
present your members as slaves of righteousness for
holiness. 20 For when you were slaves of sin, you
were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did
you have then in the things of which you are now
ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But
now having been set free from sin, and having
become slaves of God, you have your fruit to
holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the
wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
14. IN THE NEW LIFE WE ARE
WASHED FROM OUR SINS
A. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Do you not know that the
unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?
Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor
idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor
sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor
drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will
inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were
some of you. But you were washed, but you were
sanctified, but you were justified in the name of
the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
B. Acts 22:16 And now why are you waiting? Arise
and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling
on the name of the Lord.‘
15. IN THE NEW LIFE WE PUT TO DEATH THE
OLD MAN AND PUT ON THE NEW MAN
Ephesians 4:17-32 This I say, therefore, and testify in
the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest
of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18
having their understanding darkened, being alienated
from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is
in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19
who, being past feeling, have given themselves over
to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with
greediness. 20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if
indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by
Him, as the truth is in Jesus: >>>
16. IN THE NEW LIFE WE PUT TO DEATH THE
OLD MAN AND PUT ON THE NEW MAN
22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct,
the old man which grows corrupt according to the
deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your
mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was
created according to God, in true righteousness and
holiness. 25 Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each
one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are
members of one another. 26 "Be angry, and do not
sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor
give place to the devil. 28 Let him who stole steal no
longer, but rather let him labor, working with his
hands what is good, that he may have something to
give him who has need. >>>
17. IN THE NEW LIFE WE PUT TO DEATH THE
OLD MAN AND PUT ON THE NEW MAN
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your
mouth, but what is good for necessary
edification, that it may impart grace to the
hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of
God, by whom you were sealed for the day of
redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger,
clamor, and evil speaking be put away from
you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one
another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
just as God in Christ forgave you.
18. IN THE NEW LIFE WE DIED AND OUR
LIFE IS HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD
Colossians 3:1-25 If then you were raised with
Christ, seek those things which are above, where
Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your
mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3
For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in
God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you
also will appear with Him in glory. 5 Therefore put to
death your members which are on the earth:
fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and
covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these
things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of
disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked
when you lived in them. 8 But now you yourselves are
to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy,
filthy language out of your mouth. >>>
19. IN THE NEW LIFE WE DIED AND OUR
LIFE IS HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off
the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the
new man who is renewed in knowledge according
to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there
is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor
uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free,
but Christ is all and in all. 12 Therefore, as the elect
of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies,
kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13
bearing with one another, and forgiving one
another, if anyone has a complaint against another;
even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14
But above all these things put on love, which is the
bond of perfection. >>>
20. IN THE NEW LIFE WE DIED AND OUR
LIFE IS HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,
to which also you were called in one body; and
be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in
you richly in all wisdom, teaching and
admonishing one another in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your
hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in
word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord
Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through
Him. 18 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as
is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your
wives and do not be bitter toward them. 20
Children, obey your parents in all things, for
this is well pleasing to the Lord. >>>
21. IN THE NEW LIFE WE DIED AND OUR
LIFE IS HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD
21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest
they become discouraged. 22 Bondservants,
obey in all things your masters according to the
flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but
in sincerity of heart, fearing God. 23 And
whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord
and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord
you will receive the reward of the inheritance;
for you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who
does wrong will be repaid for what he has done,
and there is no partiality.
22. IN THE NEW LIFE WE WERE
BROUGHT BACK FROM DEATH IN SIN
Ephesians 2:1-10 And you He made alive, who
were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which
you once walked according to the course of this
world, according to the prince of the power of
the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of
disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once
conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh,
fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the
mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just
as the others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy,
because of His great love with which He loved
us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses,
made us alive together with Christ (by grace
you have been saved), >>>
23. IN THE NEW LIFE WE WERE
BROUGHT BACK FROM DEATH IN SIN
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit
together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
7 that in the ages to come He might show the
exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness
toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you
have been saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works,
lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good
works, which God prepared beforehand that we
should walk in them.
