Meet Erica.
An all-star student athlete that is preparing for college. She
was approached by two different recruiters from
Universities over 300 miles away to continue her sports
career at their school for a full scholarship.
Before Erica sat down to talk with her parents about the
schools of interest she recalled previous time where a
recruiter from a local college came to the house to meet her

Based on that experience, Erica threw away both numbers.

Be mindful of what influences your choices.
Past Experiences
Perceptions or Feelings of Others
Why didn’t Erica contact the recruiters?
Correct. She relied on a previous experience with her parents and a recruiter to guide her judgment in new opportunities.
How do you think Erica feel about the schools that made contact with her?
Although we do not know we can draw inference or our own perspective about wanting to talk to her parents about the schools that approached her.
This is a trick question because we don’t know. At times, we are so guided by the feelings of others that we never take time to consider how we really feel about an opportunity.
How does her parents feel about meeting with recruiters?
The parents thought it was a waste of their time.
Ultimately Erica trusted or relied on her past experience to guide her choices and missed new opportunities. She also trusted in her parents perceptions instead of drawing her own.
So what can we do as young people?
As young Christians, we are called to TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL OF OUR HEARTS. This is how we remember him. Recall to mind past experiences with him and not failed experiences with others to guide our choices.
It was her understanding.
She remembered God after a decision has been made.
