2013 Results: The Hounds swept the series 2-0
All-Time Series: The teams are 2-2 against one another, with the Lizards sweeping the 2012 series and
the Hounds taking the 2013 series
All four games between these teams have been closely contested. The largest margin of victory in the
series was in Week 12 of 2012, when the Lizards topped the Hounds 13-9. Every other game has been
won by a one or two goal margin. The close nature of those games also accounts for the high penalty
minutes racked up between these teams. The Hounds have served 18 minutes of penalties against the
Lizards, while the Lizards have been called for 13.5 minutes of infractions against the Hounds. However,
neither team has been successful on the power play in these matchups, which can partially be
contributed to great goaltending. Drew Adams has a 54.2SV% against the Hounds, while Adam Ghitelman
has a slight advantage with a 56.3SV% in games versus the Lizards. This week is likely to provide another
intense matchup, as both teams are in a logjam at 3-4 in the standings.
HOUNDS
The Hounds last week won their second-straight
game, again topping a team with a winning record.
The Launch came into the matchup at 4-2, but lost 14-
13 in a thrilling back-and-forth game. The Hounds
improved to 3-4 with the victory. The home team
jumped out to an early lead, but the Launch came
back to tie the game before halftime. A huge third
quarter -- in which the Hounds outscored the Launch
5-2, including a 2-point goal from Mike Sawyer --
proved to be the game’s difference maker, as both
teams otherwise scored 13 goals on 27 shots. The
game got pretty chippy, with the teams racking up a
total of 11.5 penalty minutes. The Launch were 2-9 on
the power-play, while the Hounds were 1-6.
Players To Watch
Mason Poli (LSM) – A huge asset for the Hounds in
transition, Poli has scored at least one goal in three
straight games.
Justin Ward (A) – With nine assists in three games,
the rookie is quickly becoming the team’s new QB.
Josh Hawkins (M) –He ranks third on the team with
17 groundballs and is tied for fifth with five goals.
LIZARDS
The Lizards return to their home field this weekend
after losing two games on the road. They fell 11-8 to
the Launch in Week 6, and 16-11 to the Outlaws in
Week 7. Greg Gurenlian has dominated at the faceoff
X, giving the Lizards plenty of chances, but they have
struggled with turnovers and loose balls. The Outlaws
shut the Lizards out in the first quarter en route to a
4-0 advantage, and pushed that lead to 14-5 going
into the fourth quarter. Coach Joe Spallina then made
the decision to replace Drew Adams in cage with
Sean Brady. Adams had 7 saves on 20 shots in the
first 45 minutes. The Lizards kept battling, and tallied
an impressive six goals straight to close out the game,
thought it wasn’t enough for the victory. Brady
finished with 2 saves on 2 shots.
Players To Watch
Rob Pannell (A) – The sophomore player has a career
average of 3.94 points per game. Last year he tallied
nine points in two games against the Hounds.
Max Seibald (M) – With 12 goals already, the veteran
appears back to full force following an injury-marred
2013 campaign.
Kyle Hartzell (D) – He ranks second on the team with
26 groundballs and also has scored three goals.

NOTEWORTHY – June 21, 2014
UNDER THE STARS: The MLL All-Star Game will take place in Boston on Thursday, June 26. Matt Danowski,
Kevin Drew, Ryan Flanagan and Brett Schmidt will represent the Hounds in the game against the U.S. Men’s
National Team. It will be Danowski’s fifth All-Star appearance, Drew’s first, Flanagan’s third and Schmidt’s
second.
LONELY ROAD: The Hounds have yet to win an away game this season, going 0-3 against the Launch, Outlaws
and Cannons. The Lizards currently have a 2-0 record at home.
HISTORY LESSON: This week’s matchup features the top two all-time scorers in NCAA men’s Division I
lacrosse. Matt Danowski held the record from 2008-13, with 353 career points at Duke. The Lizards’ Rob
Pannell broke that mark in 2013, graduating Cornell with a total of 354 points.
POWER STRUGGLE: The Hounds currently have a league-worst power-play percentage of 14.29%, while the
Lizards boast the MLL’s top penalty kill at 87.5%.
THREE OF A KIND: Rookie Justin Ward has put up the exact same stat line – 1 goal and 3 assists – in each of his
first three MLL games. The first two were against the Outlaws and the third against the Launch. He now is tied
for second in points on the Hounds roster with 12.
MILESTONE MOMENTS: Midfielder Pat Laconi last week against the Launch scored the first goal of his
professional career. It was just his second appearance in an MLL game.
SOPHOMORE STANDOUTS: Five of the Hounds’ top 10 scorers this season are second-year players -- Mike
Sawyer (13pts), John Haus (11pts), Mason Poli (8pts), Jake Tripucka (6pts) and Josh Hawkins (5pts).
ONE MORE TIME: Matt Danowski is just one goal away from reaching the 150 mark for his career (including
the postseason). The attackman also is just six assists away from reaching 100.
KEEP THE STREAK ALIVE: Ryan Young enters Week 8 riding a 24-game streak of recording at least one point,
dating back to Aug. 11, 2012 (including the postseason).
DOUBLE TROUBLE: The Hounds and Outlaws are tied for most 2-point goals in the league with five each.
Additionally, the Hounds are one of three teams to have allowed only a singular 2-point goal. Meanwhile, the
Lizards are the only MLL team that has not scored at least one 2-point goal this season. They also have allowed
a league-high five 2-point goals.
