Success in College Essay

Managing Your TIME
The frist thing that a new college student must learn how to do is to stay organized and learn to
decipher their priorities. By doing so you will make sure you never; miss an appointment, forget to
do a homework assignment, and loose sight of time when doing a project or paper. (Waiting to the
last minute never allows for your best work to be done) A planner is the best way to keep everything
in order and well organized. Withier it be a monthly schedule or weekly or even daily, the use of a
planer is huge tool for your success.
Now you might ask your self, "what goes into a planner besides, my homework assignments?' And
good answer would be your...show more content...
The best way to read a textbook for a class like psychology is by first skimming the chapter and
asking question, and finding main themes of the topic, after that the next step to follow is by taking
notes while reading the book, and highlighting while you read. This will allow you to refer back to
the important detail that you will find int the chapter. It is always important to make sure your mind
is fit for reading. If you are tired after a long day of drivng and you are tired then it is going to be
very difficult for you mind to focus on reading a very intense chapter. Try to choose the right time
to read for certain classes. In the example earlier it is not wise to read a psychology book at in the
morning, when the bulk of the information is important. Your mind will not be focused. Now on
the other hand do not try to over due it with classes that do not need the same attention. In most
cases you will not need to spend the same amount of effort into a religon textbook as you do a
Phsychoology textbook. With a subject whose main focus maybe emphasized on lecture notes its
best to take a highlighter to the text and highlight the main points so when you do need to go back
to the book for reference you can find what's important.
Trying to find a place to read is as important as reading the right book. If you try to read the textbook
on your bed, your body is going to recognize that this is the same place you sleep and
subconsciously your

How to Succeed in College
College 101 has been a very informative class. It has taught me a lot about college and the changes
you have to make while attending college. I learned a lot about certain programs that the school
offers, I knew nothing about these programs before I took this class and I probably never would
have known anything about them if I never would have taken this class. In this class I have learned
about three important concepts that can be very useful throughout my college years to come. I think
time management, determining values and balancing lifestyles are the three most important concepts
you need to help you succeed in college.
I think planning a day to day schedule of the things you have to do is very...show more content...
Some people value education and material things while others value religion and spirituality. You
have to identify the values that are going to make you happy because if you don't you may try to
accomplish things to make other people happy. Having values helps you to determine where you
want to go in life and the decisions you make. If you value something you are pretty much going
to base every thing you do around that. Having values makes you a unique person because it has a
big impact on the choices you make and the lifestyle you live. One thing you have to value is
college because if you don't value it you won't succeed in it because you don't care what you do and
you won't achieve anything.
Balancing your lifestyle while in college is very difficult because if you have a lot on your plate
like children or other important responsibilities it's hard to balance them all and attend college. I
think this has a lot to do with time management because when making a schedule you have to put
your family or other responsibilities in that schedule and make time for everything. Some people
work full time and go to school full time and if you have a lot of things to deal with you will burn
out from the stress that such a pace imposes on your mind and body. If you work less and eliminate
some things than you will have more time while in college.
In conclusion I really have learned a lot in this class and really has helped me to manage my time

Reflection Of Success In College
One of the question on the board I'd like to respond to that was very early in the semester is what
does success look like. My original response to this was, "There multiple ways to answer this.
Success is being happy, but smiling is a look associated with happiness, but depressed people can
smile and laugh too. So to answer what success actually looks like is someone who show's continuous
genuine happiness. The best way to achieve that status is to have your stress levels at a minimum."
After being in college for the rest of the semester I think for the most part my answer stays the
same. I still believe success is when you are truly happy in the world you live in, but I can explain
this a lot better. Success is when you don't have to worry about things in life anymore. When you
don't have to work to get yourself out of bed in the morning and knowing what you have to face
for the rest of the day. Success is when you can say to yourself, i'm glad that the things that I did in
my past lead me to this point I am at now. To the new me that's what success looks like. It's not an
easy thing to obtain but everyone can obtain it as long as the keep an optimistic view on life and
remember to just keep moving forward.
Another question I liked from the board that I jotted down was what works? My initial response to
this was this. "Friends & partying helps a lot. It's so much relief but you have to keep it at a
balance. Another thing that helped out a lot was teachers who curve or

College Success
What does it mean to be successful? Many people look at the word success from different views.
The dictionary defines success in two ways: the accomplishment of one's goals and then the
attainment of wealth or position. I believe you can be successful in two ways as well: you can be
successful in your career and you can be successful by doing what makes you happy and living a
fulfilling life to your standards. You don't have to have a huge mansion on top of a private hill
looking over the ocean to be defined as successful. When asked what it takes to be successful in
college, that's a different story. To be successful in college is to reach your academic goals in a
productive way. I am in college to obtain a...show more content...
Another vital skill that will help me to succeed in college is to have good communication with
professors. I chose this skill because your instructors are your most important resource through your
college years. Mastering this skill will help me with just about anything; keeping up with grades,
going over questions that I have on the homework assignment so that I don't make the same mistake
on the test. Professors can be your friend if you let them. They really are there to help you succeed.
In "Student Guide to First–Year Composition" Sugie Goen–Salter writes, "When you are a student in
a first–year composition course, your instructor is your most important resource."(50) Goen–Salter is
saying that you have many resources in college but your main one will be your instructor. You
can use them as a learning tool or even as someone to just talk to. I'd much rather my professors
be my friend or at least know me by name and face rather than not know who I am. I will talk to
my professors about anything; the weather, how their day is going, what they had for breakfast,
etc. The purpose of your instructor is to be your guide along this journey of life. If I keep in good
contact with my professors I will never be unsure about what is being asked of me. Sugie
Goen–Salter also writes, "Office hours and your instructor's office location will be listed on your
syllabus, and your instructor will post her office hours outside her

College essay: The word successful can have different meaning to others, success can be
measured on monetary worth, items you acquired over the years, people you've met, people
you've procreated with starting a family, those very same people are the ones you know and love.
Success isn't for all, some will fail trying ever so hard reaching for that pedestal of completion in

article to be enlightening and will definitely be using the tips it provided to improve my college

be tempting at times."(Randall S. Hansen, Your First Year of College, livecareer.com). This quote
from the article relates to me because I often yearn to sleep, but recognize that I cannot, I will
presumably find this a constant vex during college. Moreover Randall S. Hanson is the author of

time, although it feels so long ago, where I had entered the dojo of Klotz Institute for Karate as a
beltless novice. I can remember seeing the other students, whose ages ranged from half to three
times my own, and admiring the confidence and the effortlessness of every technique they
perform. I can remember the first time I put on a pair of gloves and a helmet. We were practicing
a few basic combinations and I ended up being paired with an older man wearing a black belt. I put

Challenges of College Essay
After graduating high school, no one prepares you for college. Most kids when they are finished
with high school don't even fantasize about going back to school. I have always wanted to go to
college ever since I was a young kid. I also had dreams of myself going to college, but in my dreams,
everything was picture perfect. In reality, college has been very challenging for me. No one tells you
about the adjustments and complications that you would have to face to become a successful
college student. One of my obstacles that I have been faced with is not having any extra time to
hang out with my best friends. All my friends think I am neglecting them. They think I don't care
about them anymore. I care about my friends a lot, I am used to...show more content...
My relationship has suffered because we don't spend enough time together. My partner thinks we
are growing apart, which isn't true at all. I have given out so much support over the years, I ask
myself, why cant I get anyone to give me the support and encouragement that I need. Even with
my personal problems, I also have had to make other adjustments in my life. We all know college
is very expensive, so money is very limited. I was never really good with money until I started
going back to school. I am used to shopping and going out to eat everyday. When the time came for
me to cut back on my spending, it was like someone stabbed a knife through my heart. It not like I
can't go shopping anymore, it just means I just can't buy the high–priced, premium items now. For
example, I'm used to buying Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Prada. The only way I am saving money is
by just staying away from those three stores. In just two months I have saved lots of money. Another
alteration I had to make was stop going out and partying. Ever since I turned twenty–one, I have
partied almost every other day. I love the nightlife! I love being with my close friends, drinking
and dancing. It so much fun until you wake up the next morning and realize you have class and a
bad hangover. In college, I have come to realize that you can't go to class with a hangover because
you will not learn anything. All you will keep saying in your head is, "when is this class going to
end". To

How To Be Successful In College
My motivation to be successful in college are the people who look up to me. I have three younger
siblings who I am very close with. We are like peas in a pod and for the past several years, I have
been a second mother to them. My mother was a single mom and we had a tough situation, so it
was stressful and she became depressed. This caused her to become emotionally and mentally
absent in mine and my sibling's childhood. Therefore, I become more involed in caring for my
younger brothers and sister. I quickly realized how challening motherhood was because not only
does it come with many responsiblities, but you also become a role model. I had to change things I
did and how I did things so I could set a good example for my siblings because I was

College Essay On Success In College
College is one way ticket that can lead to your success and your future. Unfortunately, few
individuals get to experience this unique opportunity and become successful students. Success is
what every individual wants to achieve in their life to get where they want to be in life. To be
successful you must take some decisions, you must know what you want to accomplish and create a
strategic plan to guide you in life. I interview a couple of students that graduated from college and
how they manage to earn their degree. I visit my cousin from New Jersey, a couple of months
ago, who has recently graduated from college. She is in her early 20's, who was studying
criminal justice at John Jay College in New York. She got her degree and graduated with many
honors, also got a chance to see the president of The United States in person. I ask her several
questions that helped her succeed in college and reach her goals while in college. Some of the
challenges, she faced while in college was time management, and paying her tuition bills. She had a
part– time job at target and work night shifts. Her job was a big problem to her because it
sometimes delays time on her school work. Her family was very important to her while earning her
degree, they help her to overcome the challenges she was facing. They help her with the school
tuition and help her manage her time correctly. The most important thing she enjoys while attending
college was meeting new people that can help you succeed in

In order to effectively manage your time you need to set short term and long term goals and then
link those goals to your values (Keys to College Studying, Carter Bishop, and Kravits, 2002). After
we set goals we need to prioritize them to make sure the most important goals get accomplished first.
Time management is an art; it takes an individual that is detail oriented and mature enough to know
oneself.
I think the most important skill that a college level student needs is discipline. How many movies
have we watched that have college students partying their college years away and then regretting it
in the end. A disciplined person can make the most out of a college education. With the rising cost
of a college education we need to make the most out of the time we have. The average cost in

Student Motivation And Academic Success
There are a number of factors that can contribute to the academic success of a student in college –
motivation, learning preferences/styles, socioeconomic status, whether or not the student is a first
generation college student, gender, and even race. With so many factors potentially contributing or
hindering a student's academic success in college; it is important for teachers to attempt to connect
with students in the classroom. Adjusting instructional methods that focus on students' learning
preferences/styles can increase student motivation and can lead to academic success. Studies have
been conducted to determine if teaching methods, learning preferences/styles and motivation can
predict academic success in college. Some of the challenges facing educators in college classrooms
across the nation include: how to make valuable connection with students, understanding students'
learning preferences/styles, motivating students and promoting student academic success. When
effective instructional methods are used in correlation with focusing on students' learning
preferences/styles and incorporating current technology – student motivation and academic success
increases. Understanding the purpose of motivation in the classroom, the different learning
preferences/styles of the students, how to incorporate new instructional methods and using current
technology can ultimately lead to positive student outcomes such as increased academic motivation
and success. Keywords:

Most of my days are long and tiring. By managing my time wisely, I normally get everything I
need for school and my extra circular actives done in a timely fashion. Sometimes it takes not
hanging out with the girls, in order to make sure I get my work done. Even putting in an extra
hour at work helps me manage my time more wisely and keeps me from temptation. Which in
turn forces me to focus more on my school work. Coaching football has always been a passion of
mine. Knowing how restricted my schedule is, I strive to get my boys out of practice on time
everyday. That way I can make it home to get some studying in, before I head into work. Many

simple things that can make or break a student's college career. Things such as going or not going

Achieving Academic Success In College
Achieving Academic Success
Academic success in College is about many things. success prepares a person for a future career
and helps transition someone to an adult. Success establishes an interest in lifelong learning.
College is an opportunity for a person to take charge of the direction in their life. A person is in
charge of the classes they take, how much they will study, and what they will experience.
Students face many challenges in college, and many of those challenges are in academic success.
Students who struggle finding the time and energy feel like there is no solution to their problems.
However, there are several ways for college students to improve academic success. Procrastination is
a challenge that can impede academic success. Procrastination is when someone leaves
everything they have to do to a later time. There are many reasons why people procrastinate. Two
examples are; "I don't feel like doing it', and "I don't know how." Personally, I procrastinated all
the way through senior year in high school and until my first semester in college of freshman
year. I thought that procrastinating could work all the time, but over time procrastinating
actually got stressful and caused me to feel down upset, I also ended up not getting the grades I
wanted. so, I am trying to learn to stop and do all my work right when I get it, and break it up into
parts so I can be done early and not have to worry about all the work piling up. There are many tips to

Success In College Essay

  • 1. Success in College Essay Section One Managing Your TIME The frist thing that a new college student must learn how to do is to stay organized and learn to decipher their priorities. By doing so you will make sure you never; miss an appointment, forget to do a homework assignment, and loose sight of time when doing a project or paper. (Waiting to the last minute never allows for your best work to be done) A planner is the best way to keep everything in order and well organized. Withier it be a monthly schedule or weekly or even daily, the use of a planer is huge tool for your success. Now you might ask your self, "what goes into a planner besides, my homework assignments?' And good answer would be your...show more content... The best way to read a textbook for a class like psychology is by first skimming the chapter and asking question, and finding main themes of the topic, after that the next step to follow is by taking notes while reading the book, and highlighting while you read. This will allow you to refer back to the important detail that you will find int the chapter. It is always important to make sure your mind is fit for reading. If you are tired after a long day of drivng and you are tired then it is going to be very difficult for you mind to focus on reading a very intense chapter. Try to choose the right time to read for certain classes. In the example earlier it is not wise to read a psychology book at in the morning, when the bulk of the information is important. Your mind will not be focused. Now on the other hand do not try to over due it with classes that do not need the same attention. In most cases you will not need to spend the same amount of effort into a religon textbook as you do a Phsychoology textbook. With a subject whose main focus maybe emphasized on lecture notes its best to take a highlighter to the text and highlight the main points so when you do need to go back to the book for reference you can find what's important. Trying to find a place to read is as important as reading the right book. If you try to read the textbook on your bed, your body is going to recognize that this is the same place you sleep and subconsciously your Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. How to Succeed in College Essay How to Succeed in College College 101 has been a very informative class. It has taught me a lot about college and the changes you have to make while attending college. I learned a lot about certain programs that the school offers, I knew nothing about these programs before I took this class and I probably never would have known anything about them if I never would have taken this class. In this class I have learned about three important concepts that can be very useful throughout my college years to come. I think time management, determining values and balancing lifestyles are the three most important concepts you need to help you succeed in college. I think planning a day to day schedule of the things you have to do is very...show more content... Some people value education and material things while others value religion and spirituality. You have to identify the values that are going to make you happy because if you don't you may try to accomplish things to make other people happy. Having values helps you to determine where you want to go in life and the decisions you make. If you value something you are pretty much going to base every thing you do around that. Having values makes you a unique person because it has a big impact on the choices you make and the lifestyle you live. One thing you have to value is college because if you don't value it you won't succeed in it because you don't care what you do and you won't achieve anything. Balancing your lifestyle while in college is very difficult because if you have a lot on your plate like children or other important responsibilities it's hard to balance them all and attend college. I think this has a lot to do with time management because when making a schedule you have to put your family or other responsibilities in that schedule and make time for everything. Some people work full time and go to school full time and if you have a lot of things to deal with you will burn out from the stress that such a pace imposes on your mind and body. If you work less and eliminate some things than you will have more time while in college. In conclusion I really have learned a lot in this class and really has helped me to manage my time better Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflection Of Success In College One of the question on the board I'd like to respond to that was very early in the semester is what does success look like. My original response to this was, "There multiple ways to answer this. Success is being happy, but smiling is a look associated with happiness, but depressed people can smile and laugh too. So to answer what success actually looks like is someone who show's continuous genuine happiness. The best way to achieve that status is to have your stress levels at a minimum." After being in college for the rest of the semester I think for the most part my answer stays the same. I still believe success is when you are truly happy in the world you live in, but I can explain this a lot better. Success is when you don't have to worry about things in life anymore. When you don't have to work to get yourself out of bed in the morning and knowing what you have to face for the rest of the day. Success is when you can say to yourself, i'm glad that the things that I did in my past lead me to this point I am at now. To the new me that's what success looks like. It's not an easy thing to obtain but everyone can obtain it as long as the keep an optimistic view on life and remember to just keep moving forward. Another question I liked from the board that I jotted down was what works? My initial response to this was this. "Friends & partying helps a lot. It's so much relief but you have to keep it at a balance. Another thing that helped out a lot was teachers who curve or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. College Success Essays College Success What does it mean to be successful? Many people look at the word success from different views. The dictionary defines success in two ways: the accomplishment of one's goals and then the attainment of wealth or position. I believe you can be successful in two ways as well: you can be successful in your career and you can be successful by doing what makes you happy and living a fulfilling life to your standards. You don't have to have a huge mansion on top of a private hill looking over the ocean to be defined as successful. When asked what it takes to be successful in college, that's a different story. To be successful in college is to reach your academic goals in a productive way. I am in college to obtain a...show more content... Another vital skill that will help me to succeed in college is to have good communication with professors. I chose this skill because your instructors are your most important resource through your college years. Mastering this skill will help me with just about anything; keeping up with grades, going over questions that I have on the homework assignment so that I don't make the same mistake on the test. Professors can be your friend if you let them. They really are there to help you succeed. In "Student Guide to First–Year Composition" Sugie Goen–Salter writes, "When you are a student in a first–year composition course, your instructor is your most important resource."(50) Goen–Salter is saying that you have many resources in college but your main one will be your instructor. You can use them as a learning tool or even as someone to just talk to. I'd much rather my professors be my friend or at least know me by name and face rather than not know who I am. I will talk to my professors about anything; the weather, how their day is going, what they had for breakfast, etc. The purpose of your instructor is to be your guide along this journey of life. If I keep in good contact with my professors I will never be unsure about what is being asked of me. Sugie Goen–Salter also writes, "Office hours and your instructor's office location will be listed on your syllabus, and your instructor will post her office hours outside her Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 6. College Essay: What Is Success? College essay: The word successful can have different meaning to others, success can be measured on monetary worth, items you acquired over the years, people you've met, people you've procreated with starting a family, those very same people are the ones you know and love. Success isn't for all, some will fail trying ever so hard reaching for that pedestal of completion in life, it's the drive of life to compete therefore there is underlying drive to succeed. Although a roof over my head, food on the plate could be considered successful for some, I want to go above and beyond the bar. Just by going to a local food shelter you could feed a person with potential who then goes on to be a better person who gets a job, has a family just like yours, wife and kids, all because you selflessly donated money to a food bank. I found the article to be enlightening and will definitely be using the tips it provided to improve my college experience. "Go to class. Obvious, right? Maybe, but sleeping in and skipping that 8 am class will be tempting at times."(Randall S. Hansen, Your First Year of College, livecareer.com). • 8. Success In College Essay College Essay There is nothing that breeds more success than honest failures. I can remember the time, although it feels so long ago, where I had entered the dojo of Klotz Institute for Karate as a beltless novice. I can remember seeing the other students, whose ages ranged from half to three times my own, and admiring the confidence and the effortlessness of every technique they perform. I can remember the first time I put on a pair of gloves and a helmet. We were practicing a few basic combinations and I ended up being paired with an older man wearing a black belt. I put on best game face I could muster and pretended that I had done this a hundred times before. Well, he must have believed me because as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Challenges of College Essay After graduating high school, no one prepares you for college. Most kids when they are finished with high school don't even fantasize about going back to school. I have always wanted to go to college ever since I was a young kid. I also had dreams of myself going to college, but in my dreams, everything was picture perfect. In reality, college has been very challenging for me. No one tells you about the adjustments and complications that you would have to face to become a successful college student. One of my obstacles that I have been faced with is not having any extra time to hang out with my best friends. All my friends think I am neglecting them. They think I don't care about them anymore. My partner thinks we are growing apart, which isn't true at all. I have given out so much support over the years, I ask myself, why cant I get anyone to give me the support and encouragement that I need. Even with my personal problems, I also have had to make other adjustments in my life. We all know college is very expensive, so money is very limited. I was never really good with money until I started going back to school. I am used to shopping and going out to eat everyday. When the time came for me to cut back on my spending, it was like someone stabbed a knife through my heart. It not like I can't go shopping anymore, it just means I just can't buy the high–priced, premium items now. For example, I'm used to buying Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Prada. The only way I am saving money is by just staying away from those three stores. In just two months I have saved lots of money. Another alteration I had to make was stop going out and partying. Ever since I turned twenty–one, I have partied almost every other day. I love the nightlife! I love being with my close friends, drinking and dancing. It so much fun until you wake up the next morning and realize you have class and a bad hangover. In college, I have come to realize that you can't go to class with a hangover because you will not learn anything. All you will keep saying in your head is, "when is this class going to end". We are like peas in a pod and for the past several years, I have been a second mother to them. My mother was a single mom and we had a tough situation, so it was stressful and she became depressed. This caused her to become emotionally and mentally absent in mine and my sibling's childhood. Therefore, I become more involed in caring for my younger brothers and sister. I quickly realized how challening motherhood was because not only does it come with many responsiblities, but you also become a role model. • 11. College Essay On Success In College College is one way ticket that can lead to your success and your future. Unfortunately, few individuals get to experience this unique opportunity and become successful students. Success is what every individual wants to achieve in their life to get where they want to be in life. To be successful you must take some decisions, you must know what you want to accomplish and create a strategic plan to guide you in life. I interview a couple of students that graduated from college and how they manage to earn their degree. I visit my cousin from New Jersey, a couple of months ago, who has recently graduated from college. She is in her early 20's, who was studying criminal justice at John Jay College in New York. She got her degree and graduated with many honors, also got a chance to see the president of The United States in person. I ask her several questions that helped her succeed in college and reach her goals while in college. Some of the challenges, she faced while in college was time management, and paying her tuition bills. She had a part– time job at target and work night shifts. Her job was a big problem to her because it sometimes delays time on her school work. Her family was very important to her while earning her degree, they help her to overcome the challenges she was facing. They help her with the school tuition and help her manage her time correctly. The most important thing she enjoys while attending college was meeting new people that can help you succeed in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Skills That Are Important For College Success University Of Phoenix Gen 300 Skills For Professional Development It seems in the society we live in today, having a college degree is a necessity. Years ago it was the norm for people to just go right into a full time job after high school, if they even finished high school; they did this to support their families. In today's society a person has a difficult time getting a decent job without a college degree. During an adults working life, bachelor degree graduates will earn about $2.1 million and a high school graduate can expect to earn an average of $1.2 million (Day and Newburger, 2002). In order to effectively manage your time you need to set short term and long term goals and then link those goals to your values (Keys to College Studying, Carter Bishop, and Kravits, 2002). After we set goals we need to prioritize them to make sure the most important goals get accomplished first. Time management is an art; it takes an individual that is detail oriented and mature enough to know oneself. I think the most important skill that a college level student needs is discipline. How many movies have we watched that have college students partying their college years away and then regretting it in the end. A disciplined person can make the most out of a college education. With the rising costs of education a person needs to be disciplined to make the most out of it. All these skills, time management, critical thinking, and discipline are keys to success in college. • 13. Student Motivation And Academic Success There are a number of factors that can contribute to the academic success of a student in college – motivation, learning preferences/styles, socioeconomic status, whether or not the student is a first generation college student, gender, and even race. With so many factors potentially contributing or hindering a student's academic success in college; it is important for teachers to attempt to connect with students in the classroom. Adjusting instructional methods that focus on students' learning preferences/styles can increase student motivation and can lead to academic success. Studies have been conducted to determine if teaching methods, learning preferences/styles and motivation can predict academic success in college. Some of the challenges facing educators in college classrooms across the nation include: how to make valuable connection with students, understanding students' learning preferences/styles, motivating students and promoting student academic success. When effective instructional methods are used in correlation with focusing on students' learning preferences/styles and incorporating current technology – student motivation and academic success increases. Understanding the purpose of motivation in the classroom, the different learning preferences/styles of the students, how to incorporate new instructional methods and using current technology can ultimately lead to positive student outcomes such as increased academic motivation and success.
