Questionnaire Results Analysis




I handed out my questionnaire to 10 males
  and 10 females and here will analyse the
            results I received.
Question 1: How often do you buy and read Rap/Hip Hop magazines?

I found that the biggest percentage of my participants never bought and/or read
Rap/Hip Hop magazines, this was 8/20 working out at 40%.
The second largest percentage I collected was 30% and this was the answer ‘every
few months’.
This makes me think that maybe my magazine should have a new issue come out
every few months or maybe just semi-annually meaning 2 each year.
A disadvantage of this would be that readers would have to wait months to read
about certain events which may be featured.


Question 2: Are you satisfied with the number of Rap/Hip Hop magazines currently
on the shelves?

This question gave me clear evidence that a new magazine is needed as 90% of the
20 participants answered with ‘no, a new magazine is needed’.
Question 3: How much would you expect to pay for a good music magazine?

My participants answered this question with sincerity as none of them opted to
answer with 0-99p. However only a mere 5% said they would expect to pay £3+.
50% answered with £2-2.99 and 45% answered with £1-£1.99 therefore I think
the most sensible price to price my magazine at would be around the £2 mark.



Question 4: Please rate each feature of music magazines on their importance.
 On a scale of 1-5 (1 being the least important, 5 being the most important)

I worked out the average score of each feature in order to clearly see which is
perceived as more important to the selection of people who filled in my
questionnaire.

If we compare these results we can tell that females are more interested in music fashion than males. This is
what most people would expect too, as in most cases females are more concerned with the way they look
and spend more time and money on looking a certain way.
Results show that females are also more likely to pay attention to and enter competitions as opposed to
males, as well as giving the impression that they go to more gigs, as they appear to be slightly more
interested in Tour Dates than males.
However males scored both album reviews and unsigned artists as crucial features whereas females didn’t
seem particularly keen on these.
Reasons for this may be that males prefer to be ‘ahead of the game’ and try and be the trendsetter of a
certain artist.
The ‘Your Letters’ and ‘Posters’ features proved to be not so popular whatsoever amongst both genders, and
I will not be including them in my magazine. Song reviews is another feature I will not be using as I feel if
someone was to read a review they would read a review of an album in contemplation of purchasing it or
not as opposed to a single of which they can simply listen to.

Question 5 & 6

These questions simply gave me the information of how old the
participant was and whether they were male or female.

Question 7: What kind of picture would you much rather see on the
                    front cover of a magazine?

The answers for this were either a ‘close up’ or a ‘long shot’ and
there was an 85% domination of a ‘close up’ preference.


       Question 8: In the photo, would you rather see them…

I gave this question four possible answers and these options were
out of; posing with no smile, posing with a smile, having fun and in
action (e.g. playing an instrument). The most popular options were
‘posing with a smile’ and close behind ‘having fun’ therefore I plan
for my front cover image to be a close of an artist who is having fun
whilst smiling.
Question 9: Would you prefer a magazine to pose primary colours or a
variation of shades?
With this final question of my questionnaire I wanted to find out whether
primary colours such as red blue and green were preferred over less usual
shades.
15 out of 20 equalling at 75% voted for a variation of different shades of
colours therefore my magazine house colour will not be a primary colour.



Overall I think that my questionnaire was extremely successful and I found
out some very important things of which I can keep in mind when planning,
designing and eventually making my magazine.
